An exciting update from our journey in the Climate Stream of the esteemed Creative Destruction Lab: Our future CEO Markus Hochegger-Krawanja was in Paris for the final session and we are proud to announce that we also passed the final session and have successfully graduated. 🎉 The critical look at our pitch deck, business plan, financial needs and IPR strategy as well as the excellent overall advice we received and the world-class network we gained will help us to #BuildSomethingMassive. 🚀 We are delighted that three mentors have agreed to commit time to support us on our Journey: Caroline Bergaud (for the second time 👏 ), Maximilian von Düring and Miles Elsden PhD MBA. We are looking forward to work with them!

Gratifyingly, both Arnaud Blandin and Jérôme Schmitt have agreed to be our mentors for the next two months,. With their combined experience of over 50 years in sustainability, ESG, impact, strategy, technology, finance, entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership we are sure to achieve great things in 2024 and beyond, so stay tuned! 🚀

At the beginning of December, our future CEO Markus Hochegger took the opportunity to take part in the CBE JU Stakeholder Forum organized by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU). He took home important learnings how PureSurf can not only contribute to create a #sustainable and #competitive future for the European industries but also how to finance such an endeavour and how important interdisciplinary cooperation is on the route ahead. 💡 He was particularly impressed by the CBE flagship project SWEETWOODS, coordinated by Fibenol that aims to develop a first-of-its-kind biofractionation flagship plant to produce high purity lignin and affordable platform chemicals through wood-based sugars.

Fantastic news: 🎉 Last week Thursday, our CEO in-spe Markus Hochegger was in Berlin at the renowned Stage Two event, the largest European competition for start-ups from leading universities. Great news 🎉 Last Tuesday, PureSurf and our sister project, "Abfall zu Abwasch", that was funded by the aws Gründungsfonds, was awarded the Phönix price in the category prototype 🏆 . Our CEO in spe Markus Hochegger was deeply honored to receive the price together with Peter Riedler, the rector of Universität Graz. We congratulate all other winners and are deeply impressed by the presented projects, start-ups and/or spin-offs.
🏆 Uni Graz erhält erstmals den Gründungspreis Phönix 🏆 💬 „Ich gratuliere Markus Hochegger und dem Team um Katalin Barta Weissert ganz herzlich zum Gründungspreis Phönix", freut sich Uni-Graz-Rektor Peter Riedler über den Preis, der erstmals an die Grazer Universität geht und betont, dass es „für die Universität Graz wichtig ist, Projekte aus der Grundlagenforschung in die Anwendung und Innovation zu transferieren. Das Prototypen-Projekt ‚Abfall zu Abwasch‘ ist ein gutes Beispiel für die hervorragende Arbeit unserer Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler und den rund um das Unicorn Start-up & Innovation Hub entwickelten Gründungsaktivitäten“, so Riedler. 🧪 Tenside sind nicht nur in Wasch- und Reinigungsmitteln enthalten, sondern auch wichtige Bestandteile in Farben, Kosmetika oder in der Lebensmittelherstellung. Sie werden in der Chemie-, Pharma- und der Agrarindustrie eingesetzt. Großteils basieren diese aber auf fossilen Rohstoffen und werden nicht nachhaltig produziert. 🌱 Nur etwa fünf Prozent der weltweiten Tenside gelten als vollständig biobasiert. Und genau hier setzt das Prototypen-Projekt der Universität Graz an. Mittels grüner Chemie sollen aus Abfällen und Nebenströmen neuartige und biobasierte Tenside hergestellt werden. Die entwickelten Synthesestrategien reduzieren anfallende Nebenprodukte deutlich. 🏅 Der Gründungspreis Phönix wird vom Bundesministerium für Digitalisierung und Wirtschaftsstandort und dem Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung ausgeschrieben und unterstützt Start-ups, Spin-offs und Prototypen durch die Auszeichnung von wirtschaftlich erfolgreich umgesetzten Forschungs- und Entwicklungsergebnissen. Great news! 🎉 Together with our sister project "Abfall zu Abwasch" PureSurf has been nominated for the Austrian Phoenix Founders Award in the category prototype. "Abfall zu Abwasch" was funded by the AWS through a prototype grant and was run in the lab by Jacquin October and Markus Hochegger under the conceptualization, ideation and supervision of Katalin Barta. We would like to thank Balint FRIDRICH, PhD and Anastasiia Afanasenko whose brilliant fundamental work paved the way for the current exploitation strategy 👨🔬 . We are keeping our fingers crossed to take home the award on Tuesday and would like to congratulate all the other nominees for their achievements. Am 3. Oktober findet die Verleihung des Gründungspreis Phönix statt, der im Auftrag des Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Wirtschaft und des Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung vergeben wird. 📆 Die weiteren 2 der 5 nominierten Projekte in der Kategorie Prototypes sind: 👉 Mit dem Projekt Abfall zu Abwasch von der Universität Graz konnten erstmals biobasierte Tenside (die Wirkstoffe jedes Wasch- und Reinigungsmittels) mittels grüner Chemie aus Altspeiseöle sowie Lignin als Abfallprodukt aus der holzverarbeitenden Industrie hergestellt werden. Diese grünen Tenside stehen in ihren Eigenschaften denen aus der Petrochemie um Nichts nach, haben jedoch einen deutlich geringeren ökologischen Fußabdruck. 👉 V-REX GmbH hat ein völlig neues Konzept des Segelboot Baus entwickelt. Durch den Einsatz aerodynamischer Elemente und Hydrofoils (Tragflügel), können die Gewichtskräfte des Bootes vom Wasser auf die aerodynamisch wirkenden Komponenten verlagert werden. Der Wasserwiderstand wird dadurch um ein Vielfaches reduziert, wodurch Geschwindigkeitssteigerungen um den Faktor 3-4 möglich sind. Ziel der Entwicklung sind energieautarke und lautlose Lastensegler für den Warentransport.“ Der Gründungspreis Phönix wird organisiert von der aws in Kooperation mit der FFG Österreichische Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft mbH Forschung wirkt. und der Industriellenvereinigung. #GründungspreisPhönix #Startups #Spinoffs
