Microsoft and Yahoo likely to end US search alliance as Google remains market leader

Internet giants Yahoo and Microsoft failed to make progress with their renegotiation of a ten-year search deal that was made by the companies' former bosses to rival Google.

The companies have extended the deadline to re-negotiate the deal by 30 days, signalling a possible break-up between them.

Maybe ... I've been seeing quite a bit of the SLURP lately, so who knows?

I hope they can float their boat on their own if they do.

They've tried this several times before and found it too resource intensive/expensive. My guess is if they part with Bing, they're find another search surrogate.

Or, more likely, signaling an attempt to avoid a breakup.

After a while I liked using adcenter to serve both engines...... hope yahoo kept the old platform on a server somewhere!

If there�s one silver lining for Yahoo in this particular cloud, it�s that the company still has a lead of almost 4 percentage points over Microsoft in the realm of mobile search, according to StatCounter. Much like other areas of the tech industry, consumers have been shifting more and more of their time over to mobile, and Yahoo may be able to keep its lead there.

I don't think Microsoft is going to catch a break on the Mobile deal at all .. The desperation shows in search and all the way down to the way they write out or disallow other operating systems to be used in hardware via BIOS they don't even own ...

If in fact Yahoo! does strike out on it's own, again, then Mobile might allow them to write their own ticket -
