I’m getting around 900 mbps download and around the same with upload. Or that's what I was getting. Now it's between 850 to 925 if lucky. It's a good service but it comes with a price. $95 for internet and for TV, I dropped it. Without the optical cable I would be lucky to get 45mbps. 8 hours with one to three men for installation.

They have changed their selling technique. Before they would tell me that you had optical cable, and I did, to the street pole, not to my home. So this time I made it very clear that I wanted optical to my house, and got it. This part I don’t get, no charge for and an actual discount on my monthly bill. Not much but still how to get this speed, a day of men servicing my home, and for less cost per month, go figure.

I got the U-verse U300 plan which gives me almost everything except HBO. Streaming is perfect and buffering is never.

I did a speed test on a new Samsung TV, and I'm getting around 50mb on a regular basis. Before I did this I got a warning, stating not to. This may take too long, I don't know, it just struck me as strange.

For me I feel this is one of the most reliable speed test site.»www.pcmag.com/speedtest

I decided to quit Uverse, and it wasn’t a bluff. Called to tell them to stop my service and of course I got the “We will discount your service $20.00”. NO. This took me to another rep. Quote; you’ve been here so long and for your aggravation a discount of $130.00 per month…With the 300 plan and using Roku it’s quit sweet, OK… They did me right. Thank you AT&T/Uverse

U-verse TV?

Do you have U-verse for TV by any chance? Was thinking of going for that when the fiber on our block gets lit up and if the price is somewhat reasonable.

I have U-verse TV and I'm very pleased. If you can get that fiber cable to your house. A selling gimmick was them saying you have fiber, but what they don’t say is it stops at the street. Make sure you have fiber optics from the street to your home. Then you will have top speeds.

Thanks! Currently there is only fiber to the node available to us. Max speed is 75 Mbps I believe. However, aerial fiber was ran on our block in November so fiber to the home is coming. Hoping that it is lit up soon.

Indeed AT&T makes cold sales calls in our area touting their "fiber optic internet service" to legacy DSL customers, but they will NOT tell you that it is fiber optics to the VRAD (node) unless you push them on it, it comes across as deceptive advertising and they should be fined for it. I actually enjoy letting them call and BS me and then after they've wasted 20 minutes of selling their "deception" I call their bluff. Most of the time they will stammer and sheepishly admit they're lying, sometimes they get huffy and I quickly tell them that they are still lucky to have me as a customer, and that AT&T should be fined and prevented from deceptive sales tactics. Usually that shuts them up.

Re: U-verse TV?

You say they don’t tell you its fiber optics until you give them a push? That surprises me for when I’ve spoke to them fiber comes up quick. It’s there selling tool, like you just have to get this fiber optics or you can’t keep up with the Jones. I was told by AT&T they want to get rid of Uverse completely and have you go to Direct. At half the cost and staying with the channels I have now I’m having a hard time ignoring this. A huge factor is who you happen to be talking to.

They lied about the "fiber optic internet service" being Fiber To The PREMISES.

I've mentioned it before, most AT&T sales reps LIE, same for most cable and telco sales folks. They will tell you just about ANYthing to get a sale.

The claim about getting rid of U Verse completely is also a LIE.

A door-to-door salesperson lied to us about this in 2008 (around the time U-verse was rolled out in our area). The salesperson claimed that Comcast's lines were old. She also wasn't clear that the price didn't include home phone service. AT&T honored the price that she told us so we kept the order.

I wasn't very happy with the speeds from U-verse. We have been with Comcast for almost 8 years straight now and they've been good about continuing to provide us with offers. It sometimes has issues but the speeds are worth it.

We're still planning on switching back to AT&T when their fiber goes live on our block.

Of course not all sales folks lie, but in my experience with cable and ISP providers almost all those reps lie, sorry. The exceptions to the rule are rare.

Speaking of, rep quoted me $170 with taxes. "the based price of this triple for 2 Tvs would be $154.99/mo + $15.5/mo (10%
taxes) = $170/mo"

Also confirmed it included broadcast fee. "Me: I still need to think about it but does that include the broadcast fee?

Rep: Yes. it does, but what about starting th scheduling, I would like to give you an
additional reward!"

Just got order confirmation and see $184.36. Why does this seem to happen everytime we sign up for AT&T?

Now I am wondering if that extra $100 reward card is true. I'll most likely call AT&T tomorrow. I guess the worst case scenario is we'll have them switch us to U300, Internet 100, and unlimited home phone which should be $15 cheaper a month. Was really looking forward to Gigabit though but that bundle isn't terrible. Download speed won't be as fast as our current one with Comcast but at least the upload will be much faster and the ping will be better. Not to mention better reliability.

Or... I can just eat out less.

Worse case U300? That's what I have but it's $40.00 more. What plan do you have now, or what plan do you want?

We have U200, Internet 1000, and unlimited home phone. A rep I talked with on the phone applied a discount so the price looks good now.

The plan with U300, Internet 100, and unlimited home phone doesn't seem bad but it sounds like we'll just stick with the one we signed up for.

We are very happy with the service so far!

What everyone need to start doing is going to AT&T website and click Shop-internet and select"AT&T Fiber" once you punch your address it will tell you if you have fiber internet or "sorry you don't have fiber but you do have AT&T Internet".

You can verify on spot if you are fiber to the home or not! No matter what the sales person says. Sometimes they themselves are not fully knowledgeable.

Once I saw the indication online saying that our address was green for AT&T Fiber, I chatted with a rep. I wouldn't bother otherwise since they'd probably just try to sell us FTTN.

If your address is lit for fiber. Its automatic, there is not really a way for anyone to mess up.

Speedtest

I think the Speedtest.net desktop app gives me the most accurate speeds. Browser-based tests usually go nowhere near what the Speedtest.net app on my hardwired Mac Mini says.

Thanks! I’ve used Speedtest.net for years and it’s usually pretty accurate. I didn’t realize they have a desktop app until somewhat recently. Lol. It indicated to me that we are getting really close to the full speed which is good.

Would you consider downgrading to 300 Mbps eventually? I am thinking about doing that next year when our promo is about to expire. In the meantime, I am enjoying Internet 1000.

Downgrading? God forbid, I’m staying for it’s not a promo and I actually payless than when I was getting 45mb. I remember the days when downloaded something that was around 5mbs I would click on the download and if I was lucky the next morning it might have worked. Yesterday I downloaded a program that was a little over 1 G and in less than a minute it was done.

Lol. I love how quickly software updates download. I am thinking it's best not to mess with the speeds for the time being and enjoy it.

How is it with youtube?

So Im waiting for my fiber install which is next week i believe and I don't know if there is any throttling involved, but i just want to know if you're able to stream netflix and youtube perfectly without any buffering?

With fiber when streaming netflix, youtube, or any site buffering happens, now and then. It fixes itself so fast it’s not worth mentioning, but totally perfect no, but close.

AT&T plans to retire U-Verse TV and replace it with DirecTV over iptv

AT&T does plan to get rid of U-Verse TV. It will be replaced with DirecTV over an iptv set top box. This will be an identical channel lineup as the sat service without the sat dish. The service will cost less as the equipment will be a lot easier to deploy. They are planning to have this as the front line offer and only push the Directv dish service where people can't get quality internet. I am very interested in this once it launches.

Good to hear for Uverse cost is too much, but the internet is great. Do you happen to know when this is to take affect/and the cost?

I called AT&A to tell them I've had it. There first response was $20.00 discount. That’s not going to do it, and this time I meant it. Was transferred to another rep, this one gave me almost a 50% discount for one year. No mention of replacement, so this comes as quit a surprise. Considering there tricks and actions it shouldn’t

AT&T is not getting rid of Uverse for the next 5 years. I wasn’t happy to hear that.
Well I was mist informed about Uverse, or the agent didn’t know. He said no change for 5 years; 2 years later… changes. They say this will not affect existing customers and if there are any I don’t see it.

Fiber has limits

Newest q led Samsung is 100/100 on Ethernet and 170/170 on 5ghz WiFi next to hot spot. More than enough for TV. Even Verizon can only provide 900/900 on lightly loaded fibers. Verizon did change my fiber to get me above 600/900.

Internet is always shared except xfinity/comcast 2000/2000 metro service for $300/month. GPON fiber shares a 2.4/1.2 Gbps with typically 16 customers.
