Weighted blankets have recently joined the pack as one more tool in our "sleep better" arsenal. We've explored which mattresses are best, have waded through the online reviews to source the best pillows, and have even tracked down the best sheets. It's time to top things off with a weighted blanket.

A weighted blanket is exactly what it sounds like: A comforter-style blanket that has a layer of heavy pellets (usually glass micro beads) sewn into it.

One of the most recognized names in the space is Gravity, a blanket which racked up more than $4 million worth of donations (!!!) on Kickstarter back in 2017 and is our pick for napping (although it may be hard to justify the high price).

While the idea of a weighted blanket may be alluring as a cure-all — many product listings claim they help relieve things like insomnia, anxiety, and the like — it's likely that many of the benefits could be the placebo effect at work. In fact, Gravity had to to retract a few of their marketing statements after Kickstarter raised concerns.

SEE ALSO: Weighted blankets have a cult following for a reason

That said, there's no denying that a few minutes under one will likely make you feel like you're in a loving hug. Online reviewers are seriously obsessed with these things. And science or not, we don't need a study to tell us that being wrapped up in a blanket just feels nice. (Read more about our love for weighted blankets here.)

When choosing a weighted blanket, you'll want to consider a few things. First of all is the weight. It's generally recommended that people only use a weighted blanket that's about 10% of their total body weight. So that means if you weigh between 140 and 190 lbs, your weighted blanket should be around 15 lbs. Keep in mind that the bigger and heavier the blanket, the more you'll pay. You'll also want to decide whether or not you want a blanket that comes with a duvet cover, as not all of them include one. Finally, while some weighted blankets are machine washable, others are not. So if this is an important factor for you — or you're purchasing one for your kid — this is something to consider.

If you're in the market for a weighted blanket but aren't sure where to start, don't fret — that's where we come in. We've read through hundreds of Amazon reviews to come up with this list of our top picks. Here are 9 of the best weighted blankets to help you get super cozy.

What began as a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign in 2017, the Gravity Blanket is the most recognized brand name in the space. It's made from premium materials with a high standard of stitching, so its fine-grade beads don't shift or leak.

Each Gravity Blanket comes with a removable duvet cover, which is machine washable and made of super soft microfiber. Interior clasps keep the Gravity Blanket, which is hand-wash only, secured to the duvet cover. Blanket weight options include 15 lbs, 20 lbs, and 25 lbs, and though the listing claims that a gridded stitch pattern should keep the beads in place, many reviews state that the weight has a tendency to shift off the body at high points.

Amazon customer Juan Miguel writes:

"I really like this blanket. You can use it for everyday. Weather [SIC] you are on the couch, sitting on a chair or about to hit the hay on your bed. It is the best blanket created for sleeping. It’s as if someone is just caressing your body. Hugging you, and the weight of the blanket, you don’t even feel it. When you lift up the blanket that is when you feel the weight. But when it’s on top of you, nothing. It also is very warming underneath. So it’s comfortable and warms you up. I don’t even use my warmer and comforter anymore because I have this. I use a little blanket then this on top, and there you have it. The best sleep you can get. It is so comfortable, you might not want to get up the next day. Be careful. I just love this blanket though. A great investment for your self. Sleep is the most important thing for your body. So do what’s right for your body."

The Gravity Blanket comes in space gray and galaxy blue.

Hypnoser offers king-sized weighted blankets that also work for Queen, Full, and Twin beds, while the non-leaking bead technology promotes a well-rested sleep.

The unique Hypnoser sewing method is different from other brands because they make small, 4 x 4 inches, diamond pockets so the glass beads are evenly distributed. It also helps keep the fillers noise-free unlike many other weighted blankets.

With a Hypnoser Weighted Blanket you can feel the warmth and comfort of a gentle hug to help you fall asleep faster.

We don't blame you for not wanting to drop a ton of cash on an item that may very well be a placebo. Enter the CuteKing Weighted Blanket. For less than $75, you can get a Queen-sized weighted blanket that weighs 15 lbs. The downside is that it doesn't come with a duvet — although it is one of the only machine-washable weighted blankets on our list.

Made from 100% cotton that's high density and breathable, the CuteKing Weighted Blanket features cool tiny glass beads and two-layer microfibers inside for additional weight, while its stitching is backed with a three-year mending guarantee. If the beads shift or leak, just return it to CuteKing and the company will re-stitch the blanket for free.

Amazon customer Bretton writes:

"I looked at a lot of these blankets on amazon and originally had picked a more expensive one. They usually say what you get it what you pay for, but this is not the case on this product. The low cost may scare you away, but the value matches some of the more expensive ones. I pulled it out today and used it and immediately felt relaxed and fell asleep. If you have trouble sleeping like me or RLS, this blanket will help you. Comfortable, breathable and good value for the cost."

The CuteKing Weighted Blanket has a 4.0 out of 5 star customer rating with over 775 reviews on Amazon.

If you have a partner who isn't all that into cuddling — but you are — then this weighted blanket by Quility is about to be your saving grace. Ideal for couch use while binge-watching Netflix, the Quility weighted blanket comes with a super soft, plush duvet cover that you won't be able to keep from petting. The duvet cover is removable and has a handy zipper and simple string ties to make it easier to separate from the blanket for washing.

Amazon reviewers can't say enough nice things about this weighted blanket, with some 88 percent awarding it the coveted 5-star review. The biggest reason they love it? It's just so soft. Available in a few different sizes and weights, there are also options for children.

Amazon customer Laurah writes:

"I ordered the blanket because I experience high levels of anxiety pretty often. Not only did I order it to help with falling asleep but also to use while sitting at my desk working or just laying on the couch. I LOVE it! I always knew I could benefit from one of these but not as much as I actually realized I would. I'm not sure if it is like this on purpose but I love the little bumps on the navy side of the blanket and use these/ stroke with my fingers to help ground myself when I get in bed to go to sleep. I looked at so many options and glad I chose this one! I also love that the cover can be taken on and off easily for washing and that I can tie the actual blanket to the cover so the weight is distributed evenly."

The Quility Premium Adult Weighted Blanket has a 4.8 out of 5 out of 5,670 reviews on Amazon.

Weighted blanket makers Sweetzer & Orange offer weighted blankets for kids that range from 5 lbs to 7 lbs, with an additional duvet cover that weighs an extra 1.25 lbs. The blankets are made from silken cotton that's designed to be breathable and comes with your choice of a super plush cover in a pair of fun, kid-friendly designs. (Seriously — we are obsessed with the sleepy dinosaurs.) The interior of the blankets features nubby "dots" that'll feel nice against the skin.

Each blanket is weighted with odorless and non-toxic glass microspheres, while their reinforced stitching will prevent the blankets from leaking or shifting during use. In the reviews, many parents cite that it changed the way their kids sleep, helping them fall asleep faster and stay in bed longer. And as any parent knows, having a kid who wakes up multiple times during the night can take its toll.

Very satisfied Amazon customer Fitz218 writes:

"A weighted blanket was recommended by our doctor for one of our kids. He had a hard time falling asleep at night and wouldn't sleep for more than an hour in his own bed and then would wake up upset. The first night we used it I kept getting up to check on him because he slept alone is his bed like a rock for 5 hours!! The next night he slept even longer and when he woke up he quietly walked down the hall dragging his new blanket to our room. Since we bought this he's had the best, most restful sleep of his life! It has helped his so much. Thank you for this fantastic product!!"

The Sweetzer & Orange Weighted Blanket has a 4.7 out of 5 star customer rating on Amazon.

If you're looking to give a weighted blanket as a gift, then the Baloo Weighted Blanket is the best pick.

It's made from premium materials, like non-toxic breathable cotton and lead-free glass microbeads, and a high quality build with tight stitching and maximum comfort promotes relaxation and rest.

It comes with a duvet cover that connects to the weighted blanket with a series of loops, while it is machine washable in cold water and can be tumbled dry on low heat.

Amazon customer Mary M. writes:

"I love this blanket! It came in two days with Prime in perfect condition with a lovely card. I felt that whoever made it and sent it really cared. I suffer from anxiety, especially when I try to sleep at night, and that is why I ordered it. When I got into bed and put it over me, it felt strange at first, it was heavy. But shortly thereafter, I started to relax and fell asleep without the usual worries and had a great sleep from the first night. What was even more surprising was the fact that my husband said he slept well. He never says that! It's always so-so, or okay, never well! I plan to buy this lovely blanket for my daughters at Christmas. I wish I knew why it worked but I am so glad it does."

Baloo Weighted Blanket has an overwhelmingly positive 4.7 out of 5 star customer rating on Amazon.

The ZonLi Weighted Blanket is made from natural cotton, so it's highly breathable and cooler on your body. ZonLi refined their manufacturing process to tighten up stitching and reduce the size of each quilted square to make weight distribution more pleasing on your body. The end result is a more premium weighted blanket that won't leak, thanks to its two layer microfiber lining. Also, it doesn't seem to be as thick as other weighted blankets on the market.

Available in 14 different colors, these blankets are machine washable but lack a duvet.

The attention to detail makes ZonLi's weighted blanket perfect for people with allergies or people who want to feel cool and comfortable during the summer season. The majority of online reviews for this blanket are positive (some 75 percent gave it 5 stars on Amazon). And though we did read a few reviews that say the beads were spilling out, we read just as many that said they never had that problem.

Amazon customer Serenity McC writes:

"I purchased this for my son who is a brain injury survivor. He has struggled with sleep issues for years and years, a fairly common issue after TBI. He is on 4 different medications to try to help him sleep (negligible success), and he has a CPAP for central sleep apnea. He frequently twitches himself awake, so after a lot of reading and research, I invested in this blanket for him. He absolutely LOVES IT! He appears to be getting really good, solid rest as the twitching is minimized under the weight of this blanket. He has always tried to cocoon himself in his sheets and blankets, so I wish I'd invested in one a long time ago."

The ZonLi Weighted Blanket has a 4.5 out of 5 star customer rating with more than 1,550 reviews. It comes in 14 colors, including dark grey, pink and purple, navy blue, cream, and more.

While the YnM Weighted Blanket doesn't come with a duvet cover, it's priced to move at less than $80. The weighted blanket features seven layers that are designed to surround your body with more glass beads and less fiber fillers than other budget blankets. It's also engineered with temperature control in mind, no matter the season.

The YnM Weighted Blanket comes in five colors, including dark gray, light gray, blue white, gray white, and navy.

Amazon customer Jenny writes:

"I never write reviews but thought I should after buying two of these blankets! I haven’t slept through the night for almost 6 years, thanks to a difficult pregnancy and baby. It trained my body to only sleep a couple hours at a time. I tried everything, and am shocked that a weighted blanket worked so magically! From restless legs, insomnia, anxiety, it is an instant fix! I have it draped over me while I write this and it feels amazing!"

The YnM Weighted Blanket has a positive 4.2 out of 5 star customer rating with over 2,740 reviews on Amazon.

Degrees of Comfort Weighted Blanket

Degrees of Comfort Weighted Blanket

Best For Temperature-sensitive Sleepers

Some of us have *big* issues when it comes to temperature affecting how well we sleep. Too hot, and you'll be waking up in a puddle of sweat wondering what went wrong — too cold, and say hello to the shivers.

If you fit either one of those descriptions (or both), the Degrees of Comfort weighted blanket was made for you. The blanket comes with two included duvet covers — one made of warm, snuggly fleece material, and the other made with CoolMax Microfiber technology to ventilate heat away from your body.

With 10 size and weight options, this blanket has a version for everyone — from kids, to adults, to beds for two. And, with three different neutral colors, you're sure to find something that'll match seamlessly with your bedspread. The Degrees of Comfort blanket even comes with a 365-day warranty in case of damage, or if you happen to regret your purchase (we don't think you will, though).

Amazon customer Ashley Singleton writes:

"This blanket is exactly as described. I was a little hesitant to buy because of the cost but this price is fairly low for a weighted blanket. I decided to just give it a try because of the very generous return policy. After sleeping with it for a week I decided I'm definitely keeping it. The material is so soft and comfy and I easily enjoy the pressure of the weight. So if your looking for a weighted blanket try it out. Its great! So soft and comfy and I do feel like I sleep better with it."

The Degrees of Comfort weighted blanket has an average review of 4.5 stars out of 5 from almost 1,400 purchasers.

The ZZhen Weighted blanket is perfect for people who want a relaxing and good sleep. The deep pressure of the weighted blanket helps with that.

Because of the ZZZhen's tight stitching, there is not as much shifting of fillings. So, you don't have to worry about an uneven weight and thickness throughout.
