Wine packaging has evolved significantly in recent years, reflecting changes in consumer perceptions and lifestyles. There are now more options than ever, from traditional glass bottles with screw tops to bag-in-a-box, liquid cartons, and even cans. Liquid cartons, in particular, are gaining traction. NielsonIQ data shows that in South Africa, the volume of wine sold in cartons has increased by over 50% from 2022 to 2023, continuing into 2024.   Cartons may seem unconventional for wine, but their design and features make them appealing to both wine makers and consumers. Whether for a picnic, family braai, or a quiet evening, cartons offer an affordable, sustainable, and practical packaging solution. Read more here:

Did you know? Nampak Zambia operates as a “mini-Nampak” in its own right. While other divisions typically specialise in just one substrate, Nampak Zambia produces packaging from metal, plastic, and paper. One of our paper offerings includes high-quality paper bags, which we proudly convert on our Lusaka Flexographic printing line. These bags are lightweight yet possess high tensile and burst strength resilience. The FSC-certified paper used is glossy for shelf appeal, while smooth to the touch, ensuring excellent print quality and consumer experience. In addition, the paper is renewable and recyclable. Tested and food safe, they have a 65% lower carbon footprint compared to corresponding plastic bags. These paper bags are ideal for protecting and merchandising dry products such as sugar, pasta, flour, oats, rice, and muesli! 📸 Martin Kanyanta (Packer), Teddy Chilala (Team Leader), BISMARK Simudini (Technician). Middle Richard Chembo (Operator) and Arnold Kaziya (Packer).

Nampak Liquid Cartons, a division of Nampak Limited, has partnered with Woodlands Dairy to launch a tethered cap carton in South Africa. The tethered cap carton was developed in response to the urgent need to reduce plastic litter. By keeping the cap securely attached to the carton, it ensures that both components can be recycled together effectively. Woodlands Dairy is the first company to introduce this sustainable packaging solution designed by Swiss-based packaging company Svalinn. The tethered cap not only benefits the environment but also resonates with consumers who prioritise sustainability. Find out more here:

On March 20th, our IT systems detected unauthorized activity. An unknown third party gained access to our network, despite our robust security protocols. The company promptly took steps to contain, assess, and remediate the incident. Nampak is actively assessing the scope of the compromise, working with local and global cybersecurity experts. Our in-house IT team is also involved in managing the process. As part of our business continuity plans, we’ve switched to manual compensating controls. Nampak’s manufacturing facilities and operations remain unaffected, although some administrative processes are now manual. We’re collaborating closely with suppliers and customers to ensure minimal impact on product delivery.   We’re aware of our obligations under the Personal Protection of Information Act and have notified the Information Regulator. Our cybersecurity policies and technological capabilities are continually reviewed to mitigate evolving cyber risks.   There’s currently no evidence of data contamination for individual customers or suppliers. While we’ve reverted to manual systems for procure-to-pay and order-to-cash, our operations continue as usual. Our staff are well-prepared to manage this situation, and we’ll maintain regular communication. Feel free to reach us via our dedicated incident response line on 071 879 0095.
