There is nothing quite like locally-grown fruits and veggies. The quality and flavor is SO far superior to anything you could ever buy in any grocery store - no matter what price you paid.
I am at this market weekly from the time they open in the spring until they close down in late summer. Their offerings are diverse. The selection depends on the growing season, so all should keep that in mind when venturing here. Also, when their own farms cannot supply a certain product, they will get it from other farms within the state (tomatoes, in particular).
The corn here at the end of May/beginning of June is spectacular. Watermelons (especially this year) have been ruby red and sweet beyond belief. Fresh kale is not bitter, but flavorful and crisp. Jalapeños are hot! Eggplant (both regular and Japanese) is succulent. Vidalia onions are available for a short time, as are Noon Day onions. Creamer potatoes, varieties of squash and green beens are all excellent. A wide variety of peppers, too: red, green, banana. If you've never tried pickler cucumbers, then you are missing out. Wow! Sweet and not full of seeds like their larger cousins. Tomatoes are huge and nothing like what you'll find in grocery stores. They do get in Fairfield peaches, and some of the best cantaloupe I've eaten was purchased here.
Stock up on local honey, preserves and other jarred goodies. A pretty comprehensive line of Klein Bros. merchandise, too.
Service here is excellent with plenty of parking. Support local farmers and businesses! Come here for your fruits and veggies -- you won't be sorry.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0May 27, 2017Previous reviewLocal famers markets: it doesn't get much better than that. Especially when the same family has been operating this market for so many years - and they greet you so nicely when you walk in.
Superb local fruits and veggies. Skip hitting up the grocery store for squash, jalapeños, red potatoes, tomatoes, corn and SO many other items. You'll find locally grown stuff here. You CAN tell the difference. This also is the only market that I've found that carried Vidalia onions. Oh my! Love Vidalias!
Selection of local honey and freshly-jarred goodies (as well as Klein Bros. items) remains comprehensive. Truly the best salsa I've ever tasted.
I have heard some neighbors comment that the prices here are higher than the grocery store that is almost adjacent to their location. Hmm. Personally, I'd rather pay slightly more for locally grown and harvested produce that explodes with flavor than pay less for mediocrity.
Life is too short to eat tasteless, bland fruits and veggies. That's why I keep coming back here. Multiple times a week, in fact. Find me parked in the front, stocking up!Apr 21, 2013Previous reviewThis is the Theiss Farms Market that I go to every year -- and have been going to every year that it has been opened.
I wrote a review previously for their other location, but I figured that this location needs its own spot and its own set of reviews so that everyone can know how good they are.
This is a small market, and it's only open from mid-April until the end of August. It's important for people to know that they primarily pull their fruits and veggies from their own fields; when they cannot do so, they go to other Texas farmers to do so. Vegetables will generally have a state of origin listed, but not always. If you need to know, you can ask and you'll be informed.
At the beginning of the season, the offerings are slight. Right now, since they've just opened, the only homegrown items that are available are greens: mustard, collard and I believe kale. Sweet and red onions are always in stock, as well as red and green bell peppers. Cucumbers, both full-sized and pickling-sized are also currently available. Potatoes (an assortment of varieties) are there, too. Heirloom and regular tomatoes were also available for purchase recently.
As we slip into May and the summer, the real good crops will come in: zucchini, yellow squash, corn (OMG, the best corn I have ever tasted), eggplant, banana peppers, jalapenos, tomatoes (beyond yummy), watermelons, bell peppers, okra, cabbage. It's all here, and it's all homegrown. And it's marvelous. Superb produce -- and you can tell it's fresh, as you watch them unload it from the truck as it drives in from the fields.
I'm a big supporter of local business, and I remember when this area was primarily farmland. I want to see local farmers still be able to make a viable profit to keep their farms operating. As long as the veggies and fruits keep coming to this market, I will continue to shop here. They truly stock the best tasting, best quality produce around, hands down.
And, check out some of their other stock: local honey (with or without honeycomb in the jar -- perfect for allergies); homemade fig preserves; the full line of Klein Bros. pickles and salsa (their salsas are the BEST I have ever tasted). Grab a bag of fried corn, but be careful -- that stuff is addictive! There have been years, too, that I've bought Louisiana yams here, and wow, those were the best! They don't always have them, but when they do --
Find me here at least twice a week. YUM. YUM. - Aug 4, 2019
Being fairly new to the area, I still don't know where everything is. Have heard of their market, but had no idea where it was. Just last week I realized it's on our way home from Church!
We finally stopped today. They have a lot of produce variety. We picked some zucchini, watermelon, onions, potatoes, local honey, banana bread, tomatoes, a huge cucumber, and some mangoes (not sure if those were local. Maybe not?) The banana bread is delicious!
Being there reminded me of the days when I would go with my grandma to a little produce and fruit stand down the street from her home (Puerto Rico). Happy this area has places like this one.
Lovely location and friendly service as well. We will be back!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - 378186203Sep 6, 2020
Great place for a quick stop for your produce instead of going inside grocery stores and dealing with crowds. The workers are very helpful and kind.
They have wide variety of produce, jams, honey, and nuts.
Just don't expect much organic items as these items came from farms that aren't organic. Either way it is still a good way to get your produce quick without the crowd.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cindy H.Spring, TX6513Aug 21, 2022
I love shopping at this farmer's market. Everyone is very friendly. Their locally grown produce is so fresh and delicious. You can really taste the difference from what you get at the grocery store.

When I moved out to the Northern part of the city and going to Airline was no longer convenient, I began looking for a farmer's market in the area. Found Theiss Farms on Steubner Airline which had the juiciest tomatoes, sweetest corn in the husks and SHELLED fresh peas! Since I make a sweet tomato relish (old family recipe) this market was a wonderful find. All the ingredients are locally grown and fresh. Needless to say, I show happily show up when they open in the Spring and sadly wave goodbye when they close every Fall.

I love this place! They really make you feel like family. It's always sad in the fall when they close. I am always waiting on the opening email.

So we wanted to support local business and stopped in to get a few veggies. No one was visible to answer questions, but I could hear a couple of young people talking from somewhere. I didn't find what I was looking for but grabbed some other veggies, then I had to peaked behind the back and try to make eye contact with the people that were supposed to be working. The girl was on the phone talking about her after work plans, didn't bother to get off the phone or even stop talking while she checked me out. I was trying to ask about the availability of another veggie and she paused her personal phone call long enough to say "no". While she was trying to get my change she finally told the caller "hold on just a sec", still did not put the phone down and never said another word to me. My husband was shocked I still bought the product and didn't turn around and walk out. I guess I was just shocked at the service.

Lovely farmers market! The man who runs this place is always so nice and willing to strike up a conversation or help you with the produce options. The atmosphere it very relaxed and makes you feel like you are contributing to local farmers. Highly recommend!
