A one-week, evidence-based program for children and teens who stutter at the University of Cincinnati will teach kids to communicate effectively, advocate for themselves and develop confidence about their communication abilities. Camp Dream. Speak. Live., which is coming to Cincinnati for the first time July 22-26, began in 2014 at the University of Texas at Austin. The Arthur M. Blank Center for Stuttering Education and Research at UT expects to serve more than 2,000 children at camps across the United States, Africa, Asia and Europe this year.

The University of Cincinnati’s College of Arts and Sciences is partnering with the Lab Safety Institute to offer the Safer Science Summit July 22-26. The three-day STEAM Safer Science Summit will of educators and administrators K-12 an opportunity to keep up with the latest on chemical management, laboratory safety, regulatory compliance, hazard identification, legal aspects of safety and much more. Chemistry professor and A&S dean James Mack says the partnership and summit are designed to offer STEAM educators instruction and education about keeping students safe while they perform experiments. “Safety is always first,” Mack says. “We want to make sure our K-12 teachers have the equipment they need to be safe. People can get cut, or lose their sight, and spills can happen, especially when you’re dealing with chemicals.” The Laboratory Safety Institute, a non-profit educational institute, has been providing safety courses and consulting for chemical labs worldwide for the last 40 years. Its courses have been taught to more than 100,000 people in 30 countries, across industries from high-tech to government, and academia to medicine. The Bearcat mascot is probably the most recognizable ambassador for goodwill and school spirit at the University of Cincinnati. The term “UC Bearcat” dates back to 1914 and seems to have first appeared in the campus newspaper following a football game between UC and the University of Kentucky Wildcats. The Cincinnati Enquirer recounts the tradition.

Five television stations from across Greater Cincinnati featured segments on UC's Decision Day 2024. Thousands of high school students from across the region learned they were admitted to the University of Cincinnati for Fall 2024. Applications to UC approached nearly 33,000, a 7% increase over last year.

Decision Day is when the newest Bearcats learn they’ve been accepted into the University of Cincinnati. This year UC surprised six students from four Greater Cincinnati high schools in person with admission, scholarships and celebrations.

WLWT reports that Bearcat is one of 18 nominated mascots recognized for demonstrating a major impact on their sport, groundbreaking performances, a unique, fun and memorable character design and other criteria.

Founded in 2003, the Ohio Innocence Project at UC Law is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is continuing its initial purpose: working to free every person in Ohio who has been convicted of a crime they didn’t commit. So far, 45 individuals have been exonerated or freed after collectively serving more than 700 years behind bars.
