On the heels of Bryson DeChambeau’s thrilling victory in the U.S. Open, LIV Golf is in Nashville for the first time, while the PGA Tour is taking place at TPC River Highlands with the 2024 Travelers Championship.
As is the case for all tournaments in the Saudi-backed league, players are competing for quite the hefty purse at The Grove. LIV Golf has 12 regular season events this year, all of which have a $25 million prize fund. $20 million is designated for individual competition, with the remaining $5 million going to team competition.
A golfer who finishes first in LIV Golf Nashville will take home $4 million, while the winning team will receive $3 million that’s split up between the four players. Even the individual who finishes in dead last will not leave empty handed, earning $50,000 for stepping onto the green.

The PGA Tour has followed suit on its signature events and majors, raising the bar on how much its players get paid. Just last week, 2024 U.S. Open winner DeChambeau took home a record $4.3 million from an overall prize pool of $21.5 million - the largest purse ever given in a major championship.
Speaking to reporters ahead of the U.S. Open, USGA CEO Mike Whan applauded the organization for consistently adapting to the changing trends in golf. “I’m proud of the fact that we as an organization consistently ask ourselves whether or not we think we’ve got our purse right, our TV right,” he began.
“All of those things have changed quite a bit in the last few years, and change is uncomfortable, but I think we're not only keeping up with the times, but hopefully at least in the landscape of majors, in a lot of these cases we're leading. You guys can decide if you think that's right or wrong, but that's how we think about it.”

While the Travelers Championship possesses a slightly less exorbitant purse compared to the U.S. Open and LIV Golf Nashville, the money doled out to the top performers is by no means lacking. As one of the Tour’s “signature events,” the tournament still boasts a whopping $20 million prize fund, with $3.6 million being awarded to the victor.
Among those vying for the Travelers Championship’s multi-million dollar prize pool will be Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth. Rory McIlroy will be notably absent, however, after the 35-year-old announced that he’d be stepping away from golf following his gut-wrenching defeat at the U.S. Open.
