Zero To Blogger Slides
- 2. Boosting your blog for business
● The goal is to have a blog that can be utilised for business purposes
● Be your own Landlord
Wordpress.com vs Wordpress.org
In this section I explained that blogging on Wordpress.com was similar to
being a tenant
The Landlord (Wordpress.com) can evict you at any time, without
notice
You can't affiliate market (promote products)
You can't have your own Google Adsense
Your competitors can advertise on your site
● There is an upgrade option with Wordpress.com but there are
restrictions to Themes, Plugins and even what Video you can show on
your site.
I advise setting up your own self hosted Wordpress blog, that you are
your own landlord
- 3. Getting your blog found and read
● Mention what you want to be found for in the text of your blog post.
● Think like a newspaper editor
● Posts should have images
● We spoke about headlines and that they
should be keyword rich. If you don't know your
keywords then Market Samurai is a terrific tool for this.
This link – http://www.entrepreneursolo.com/sarah
provides a free 30 day trial to test it out.
● Funnel the content with an image to hook the reader in.
● Don't sweat the writing – blogging is like a muscle; it
● gets stronger with practice. This means you can always edit posts that
are not quite perfect when your writing is better
- 4. Feedburner
● Most blogs come with an RSS feed which allows your content to be syndicated
across the web.
● Your RSS feed in Wordpress is usually http://www.yourblognamehere.com/feed
● It's your RSS feed that you add to Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to promote your
blog. To measure your feed you can use Feedburner.
● Feedburner measures and tracks the reach of your blog. The old management man-
tra of “if you can't measure it, you can't manage it” comes into play here. You can-
not manage your improvements if you are not measuring them in the first place
- 5. Blog promotion basics
● Blogs are terrific lead generators and for to take place you need a place to capture
emails and store your “list”. I use Aweber for my emails and my autoresponder. If
you capture peoples email addresses then if something happens
to your site you can inform your readers of your new home etc.
You can also share really useful information via your email list,
recommend products and drive traffic to your blog posts.
● You can add your blog’s RSS feed into Twitter and Facebook via Hootsuite very
easily. Once these are in place you can forget about them – they need very little
attention.
● Comment Luv – promote your posts by commenting on blogs with Comment Luv in
place, use it to attract more comments on your own blog.
