Working With Clients

Editor's Notes

  1. What’s the site like? How much design? How many pages? Do they have a site already? Would a CMS be a better choice? What’s their vibe? What’s their product or service? Do you fit with their personality? Are you going to hate yourself after this is over?
  2. A detailed list of what you’r going to provide and at what cost. Design mockups? How many? How much are you charging hourly? Or is it a flat rate?
  3. This is the agreement. Include a timeline, what you guarantee and what you expect from the client. Protect yourself too. Make sure you don’t oversell yourself and end up working way too hard for not enough money. Have them sign it. Keep a copy for yourself and give them a copy. Stick to it!
  4. Deliver your project. Make sure they're happy. Did you offer training? Plan a time and do it. Make sure they are happy before invoicing.
  5. Make some money! Be sure to invoice. It makes it easy on you and on them. There are a few online places that will generate these invoices for you. Try out curdbee.com and freshbooks.com
