switching parts of it off.

Allow someone to switch
service providers.
Make the legal implications of
a product usage clear.
Be clear about how long
you’ll support the product for.

Security
Adopt good practices across
hardware, firmware, user
identity management, admin
functions and cloud services.
Offer factory reset!

Lifecycle
Help users repair things
easily.
Offer them spare part support
for the lifetime of the product.
Be transparent about your
production processes & who
you buy from.

Why?
A mark offers industry a
mechanism for championing
their good practices.
It’s not regulation, but it helps
industry and consumers
make better choices.

Yes this is tedious.
But who else knows their
customers and consumers
better than designers,
technologists, consumer
rights groups and standards
bodies?

Yes this will be difficult for
many to adopt now .
But by the time GDPR comes
around businesses won’t
have a choice anyway.

This is just an extra step that
can give #iot its mojo back.
