State Policy: Virtual Classrooms/Charter Schools Recent Legislation Establishment of virtual school programs.  Requires the Superintendent of Public Instruction to develop, and the Board of Education to approve, criteria for approving and monitoring multi-division providers of online courses and virtual school programs. The bill also allows local school boards to enter into contracts with approved private or nonprofit organizations to provide such courses and programs; such contracts shall be exempt from the Virginia Public Procurement Act. Any multi-division online provider operating prior to the adoption of approval criteria by the Board may continue operating until such criteria are adopted.  Are you going to follow or lead?

On-Line Instruction Florida and North Carolina What is your position?  On-Line Instruction at ALL Levels; not as an Add-On BUT in place of traditional classroom instruction Activity
Welcome to I Am Not For On-Line Instruction http://iamnotforonline.wikispaces.com More and more technology is being pushed on public education, specifically in Virginia recent legislation was approved to establish approved vendors to offer on-line instruction to replace the traditional classroom instruction. This is the beginning of the end of education as we know it. We can use technology to aid instruction, but a full time program just is not workable in Virginia's public schools. Here are some real reasons why on-line instruction will not work as a replacement for traditional instruction.

Technology and computers will not replace education but can support it in ways not thought possible in the past. There are many ways to support learning through technology. Here are some of the ways I believe we can help students learn through technology and specifically with on-line instruction. However there are some key issues that must be addressed in making sure that on-line technology is successful.
Growth Model and Teacher Compensation Are you “watching” the implementation of Virginia’s Growth Model OR are you attempting to plan for total implementation? Are you “watching” the implementation of Virginia’s new methodology for employee evaluation OR are you attempting to plan for total implementation? Are these opportunities to lead or follow?
