Interest in DevOps has never been
higher.
• Accordingto a recent global survey conducted by
Freeform Dynamics (commissioned by CA Technologies)
of some 1,442 respondents from 16 countries,
representing 9 vertical industries:
• 72% have implementedsome aspect of DevOps.
• IMPLEMENTED BROADLY:40%
• IMPLEMENTED IN SELECTED AREAS ONLY: 32%
• EXPLORING OR PLAN TO EXPLORE: 19%
• NO PLANS/ UNSURE: 9%
Interest is high because DevOps helps
companies satisfy their customers
and become more agile.
• The top 3 demand drivers are:
• KEEPING PACE WITH ESCALATING CUSTOMER DEMANDS: 86%
• CREATING NEW AND INNOVATIVE CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES: 86%
• RAPID RESPONSE TO REQUESTS FROM THE BUSINESS: 85%
• But are companies doing as well with implementing
DevOps as they think they are?
• The respondents agree on the important elements
necessary for DevOps success, but many haven’t
actually done them.
Most respondents agree that DevOps
requires a business-led approach.
• Well-DefinedStrategy and Objectives
• Business Stakeholder Education
• IT-Business Alignment of Priorities
Skilled and collaborative IT is
essential.
• Relevant IT Knowledge and Skills
• Cross Functional IT Processes
• Cultural Harmony Within IT
There is also agreement on the key
enablers and controls needed for
DevOps.
• Right Infrastructure and Tooling
• Right Suppliers and Support
• Security and Compliance Measures
But only a minority of DevOps users
have taken all the necessary steps.
• 20% OF ADOPTERS
• Advanced DevOps adopters defined as:
• Implementation activity in all 9 steps of the puzzle
• Full implementation in relation to at least 6 steps
• Finishing all the steps is key to reaping the full
benefits of DevOps.
• Advanced DevOps adopters are two to three times
more likely than non-adopters to say their digital
initiatives have contributed to competitiveness,
customer retention and top- and bottom-line
results.
