Understanding your Audience.
 Determine who the members of the audience are.
 Find out what they want and expect.
 What do they need to learn?
 Why do they need this knowledge?
Preparing Your Content
“ Preparation is the enemy of Fear”
- The British Army.
• Identify a few key points/Introduction.
• Don’t include every detail.
• Start and end on strongly.
• Use examples.
Prepare a Presentation Outline
 Plan how to deliver.
 Time the presentation
:- A beginning, a middle and an end.
 Use visual aids of some types
:- Handout, Chart pad, Slide Show.
Body Language
 Stance and Gesture
o Minimize Fiddling.
o Allow yourself to move a bit.
o Intended slow movements look confident.
o Wear comfortable shoes and stand erect.
Eye Contact
 Maintain Eye contact with all your audience.
 Break eye contact only to look at the big screen.
 Don’t stare.
 Be smiling.
Voice
 Articulate properly.
 Maintain a comfortable rate of speech.
 Audibility.
 Avoid substandard grammar.
Appearance
 Dress gently.
 Avoid dark colors.
 Ensure that the dress suits you well.
 Maintain a suitable hair style.
Delivering Confidently
 Practise to build confidence.
 Welcome statements from the audience.
 Keep your visuals simple and brief.
 Manage your stress.
Overcome Nervousness
 Recognize that being nervous is normal.
 Be ready to say “I don’t know” or “I’m not sure”.
 Be smart enough to know when you don’t know something.
 Take a deep breath using diaphragm, not your chest.
 Feel relaxed and smile.
Preparation of Visual Aids
 Simple fonts, illustrations, graphs and colors.
 Follow rule 6 X 7.
 Use clip art or animations sparingly.
 Creative visual aids wake up people.
 Consistency among slides.
Rehearsal
 Rehearse as many times as possible.
 In front of a clock.
 In front of a mirror.
 In front of a friend.
 In front of a video camera.
Summary, Conclusion and
Recommendations
 Summarize the important points briefly.
 Make sure your presentation has an end.
 It should be made clear to the audience.
Questions and Answers
 Thank or acknowledge each questioner.
 Repeat or paraphrase their questions.
 Answer each question briefly.
 Use additional slides if available.
 Check the questioner's satisfaction with your answer.
