CONTENTS Overview Integration of data Compression and decompression of data Hypermedia Sum-it-up
OVERVIEW Processing is the manipulation of data. It involves: Integration of data Compression and decompression of audio, video and images Hypermedia

CONTINUE – INTEGRATION OF DATA Collected data is often imported into multimedia software which is used to integrate and bring together different media data, such as video.

CONTINUE – COMPRESSION AND DECOMPRESSION Compression reduces the number of bits required to represent information. Compressed data is decompressed to extract the original information.
CONTINUE – COMPRESSION AND DECOMPRESSION Images are often stored in the following formats. The difference between the two is the colour support. GIF – limited to 256 colours JPEG – uses full spectrum of 16.7 million colours.
CONTINUE – COMPRESSION AND DECOMPRESSION CODEC encodes and decodes data. Typically used for sound and video files. Converts analog signals into compressed video files, such as MPEG, or analog sound signals into digitised sound, such as RealAudio.

CONTINUE - HYPERMEDIA Involves linking of information in different types of media. Information is stored using a set of documents. Information is retrieved using hypertext .
CONTINUE - HYPERMEDIA Most well-known application of hypermedia and hypertext is the Web.
SUM-IT-UP Processing is therefore and integral part of a multimedia system. It allows various methods for users to implement during their production of the system, such as integration of data.
