 As Per MWRD Vision 20-20, Improve The Water Use
Efficiency of Irrigation System By 20%
 Increasing Demand of Water For Civilization &
Industrialization Reduces The Water Availability For
Irrigation Purpose
 Efficiency of Canal Distribution Network Is 49.1%
 Efficiency of Pipe Distribution Network Is 66.3%
INTRODUCTION
12/9/2019 3

 Chak Size 5 To 12 Ha.
 Equitable Water Distribution & Optimum Cost
 Alignment of Main Pipe Should Be Minimum
 Layout of Lateral Serve Max Area With Min. Length
 Sub Lateral- Considering Shape & Size of Chak.
GUIDELINES FOR PLANNING
12/9/2019 4

 Velocity : 0.8-1.2 m/s
(Acceptable 0.6 m/s & Permissible 1.5 m/s)
 Min Driving Head : 1.2 m
 Effective Head : 0.6 m (Acceptable 0.3 m)
 Hf= L* (Q/CR)1.81
994.62 * D4.81
 Minor Losse : 10% of Frictional Losses
GUIDELINES FOR DESIGN
(As Per GR of GoM Dated 02-02-17)
12/9/2019 5

 Trash Screen : Restrict Entry of Debris, Floating
Matters
 Intake Chamber : To Collect Water From Main Canal
 Silt Trap : To Separate Silt Particles
 Air Valve : At every 300 m & summit location
(Diameter of Valve: 10% Dia. of Pipe)
 Anchor / Thrust Block : Change In Alignment & At
Every 200 m Interval
 Turnout : At Outlet of Lateral
 Electromagnetic Flow Meter : For Measuring Flow
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
(PROVISIONS)
12/9/2019 6

 Hydraulic Testing : To Ensure Pipe Rating, Leakage-
Proof
 Sluice Valve : For Regulating flow, For Maintenance.
 Crop Compensation : Rupees 50000/ Ha.
INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS
(PROVISIONS) CONTINUE..

DESIGN OF PDN.xlsx
EXAMPLE OF MINOR SYSTEM
12/9/2019 8

 PDN system saves water over conventional canal
distribution network system.
 The maximum benefits of the PDN system can be
utilized if planning and design of PDN system
should be done carefully.
 When land cost is comparatively high then adoption
of PDN system is more suitable.
