Phonebloks is a modular smartphone concept created by Dave Hakkens that allows users to customize their phone by replacing modules as needed. It consists of a base unit with connectors that various modules called "bloks" can plug into to add functions like cameras, batteries, or speakers. This modular design aims to reduce waste by allowing users to upgrade specific components rather than replacing the entire phone. Motorola has partnered with Hakkens on a similar concept called Project Ara, which uses an "endoskeleton" base and modules that slide in. This approach could deliver even greater customization and lower barriers for third-party developers. The ultimate goal is a platform that empowers users to have precise control over the components

PHONEBLOKS A PHONE WORTH KEEPING
INTRODUCTION TO PHONEBLOKS PHONEBLOKS is a longerlasting, customizable, modular Smartphone built out of interchangeable modules. WHAT IS PHONE BLOKS??  The Phonebloks is exactly what the name suggests-- a phone made out of detachable blocks.
DEVELOPED BY:  The concept was created by Dutch designer Dave Hakkens with an idea that came about as a means of reducing electronic waste. MAIN MOTTO: 1. 2. 3. 4. MODULAR OPEN-SOURCE DESIGNED TO LAST MADE FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD
HOW DOES THIS WORK?? EACH DEVICE CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS: 1)Base 2)Bloks (with connecting pins)
HOW DOES THIS WORK?? [cont.] Each device consists of a motherboard drilled with holes called base.  Phonebloks would consist of replaceable modules are called bloks.  The holes in the motherboard contain electrical connectors, which form a circuit with the conductive pins of the bloks, creating a fully functional — and fully upgradeable — phone. 
CONCEPT OF PHONEBLOKS? It’s essentially a very similar concept to the way we upgrade our PCs. For instance, If you are someone that does everything in the cloud, why not replace the storage Blok with a bigger battery Blok.
CONCEPT OF PHONEBLOKS?[cont.] If you are someone who loves to take picture then, why not upgrade your camera Or if you don’t care about any of this stuff you can keep it simple and get a bigger speaker
BLOKSTORE bloks would be available in Blokstore, "an app store for hardware" where users could buy new and used bloks as well as sell back their old ones. Smartphones based on the Phonebloks system would be sold part by part, as well as in starter sets.
PHONEBLOKS: A FULLY CUSTOMIZABLE MOBILE PHONE, DESIGNED TO LAST. Phonebloks is the new generation mobile phone which can be modified to its fullest extent.  The main Advantage of having a modular phone is that you can customize your phone.  You have the power to decide what your phone does, how it looks, where and what it’s made of, how much it costs, and how long you’ll keep it.  With Phonebloks, customers would need to buy only the bloks they actually require for “A phone worth keeping”. 

Taking it to a whole new level! To gain more support Dave Hakkens has collaborated with Motorola on Project Ara, a more practical modular Smartphone system.  Project Ara's approach involves two types of components, a basic skeleton (what Motorola calls an "ENDO", short for "endoskeleton") and " MODULES " that slide into the endo. The modules could theoretically be anything from multiple batteries to additional displays or keyboards. 
PROJECT ARA Main aim: 1. To create a vibrant third-party developer ecosystem 2. To lower the barriers to entry 3. To increase the pace of innovation 4. To substantially compress development timelines.
MODULE DEVELOPER KIT Motorola with Hakkens and the Phonebloks community, announced that it would launch a Module Developer Kit (MDK) and prototype hardware by this winter, to allow Smartphone developers to begin tinkering with the “hackable” hardware.
CONCLUSION Is a good way to prevent electronic waste.  ™You can upgrade your phone with any latest and high capacity modules anytime. ™ Has the fullest advantage of its features to the user. ™ Multiple companies work on single product, unlike single company working on multiple products and hence deliver the purest product to the customer.
