- 1. Philip Thomas Mesman expects big things at this year’s Mobile World Congress
- 2. Later this month, the 29th annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) will take place in Barcelona, Spain. Hailed as the leading event for mobile industry companies, developers and tech consultants, this year’s international congress will introduce some of the latest cutting-edge technologies. Last year’s four-day long event boasted 94,000 attendants and almost 3,000 exhibits. There were also 140 speaker sessions where industry leaders offered insight into industry innovations and trends.
- 3. “2015 marked the 20th anniversary of the Global Mobile Awards, which recognized 37 outstanding offerings covering a myriad of topics including: best use of mobile in health, education and marketing; best mobile services in emerging markets; the best apps of the year; and innovation in mobile technology,” notes the MWC website. The MWC has come a long way in the three decades it’s been around, thanks in part to the exponential growth of mobile technology and smart phones. This year’s conference schedule evidences the mass proliferation of mobile technology, with conference themes such as: Smart Cities Sustainability, Gaming, Enterprise Wearables and Digital Identity for Connected Societies to name a few.
- 4. In addition to the informative conference schedule, there are a number of industry leaders who will make keynote addresses. Facebook CEO and founder, Mark Zuckerberg, for example, will address the crowd at the end of day one. One of the biggest congress draws is the exhibit portion where companies showcase their latest innovations. “Along with upcoming smartphones and tablets, I also expect to see more about Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) as well as future standards and connectivity at MWC 2016,” said Anshel Sag, Forbes tech reporter.
- 5. Anshel Sag anticipates quite a bit of advancements in that realm this year and believes it will be a big draw for congress attendants. MWC participants should be on the lookout for the hottest VR technologies released by Samsung Electronics and GoPro. “Expect to see a lot of new AR products, as they are almost exclusively mobility products and will fit much better into MWC’s more enterprise-focused audience,” wrote Sag.

Canadian tech consultant Philip Thomas Mesman is making the trip to Barcelona in order to stay versed in this year’s mobile trends. “I’m really interested in seeing how gaming and VR come together in 2016,” said Mesman. “These advancements come so quickly that attending these events is necessary in order to know what is going on.” Mesman, who runs a successful tech consulting business in the suburbs of Toronto, is also excited about learning more about 5G. “Some have been speculating that 5G will be rolled out very shortly,” said Philip Thomas Mesman. “And when it does it will revolutionize the mobile industry, because it will make cellular networks more virtualized than ever before.”
- 7. While the February 22-25 conference only lasts four days, the technologies and advancements that are highlighted at the event will impact the lives of citizens around the globe for decades to come. In true tech fashion conferences and keynote addresses will be lived streamed on the MWC website.
