Patient Rights


o White County Medical Center is responsible for
  recognizing and upholding the rights of every patient and
  family member admitted to the facility.

o All associates are responsible for upholding the rights of
  patients admitted to White County Medical Center with
  respect in order to be consistent with the hospital’s
  mission, values, and philosophy.
Hospital Responsibility


o Patients admitted to White County Medical Center are
  given a copy of their Rights and Responsibilities which
  informs them of all hospital policies and practices that
  relate to patient care, treatment and responsibilities.

o Patients can and are encouraged to obtain
  relevant, current, and understandable information
  concerning the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of
  their situation from their physician and any other direct
  caregivers.

o The patient has the right to expect :
  •   Considerate and respectful care
  •   Assessment and management of pain
  •   Relevant, current and understandable information
      concerning diagnosis, treatment and prognosis When it is
      not medically advisable to give such information to the
      patient, the information is made available to an appropriate
      person who is designated to act on behalf of the patient.

o The patient has the right to:
  •   Make decisions about the plan of care and management of
      pain prior to and during the course of treatment and to
      refuse a recommended plan of care
  •   Express their spiritual beliefs and cultural practices
  •   Advance directives
  •   Privacy

    • Expect that all communications and records pertaining to
      his/her care are treated confidential
    • Safety
    • To be informed of hospital policies and practices related to
      patient care
    • Be informed of the hospital charges for services and
      available payment methods
