1. Cédric Moullet is the head of web infrastructure at swisstopo and is responsible for developing and maintaining their spatial data infrastructure in the cloud. 2. The Federal Act on Geoinformation mandates that geospatial data relating to Switzerland be made available to authorities and the public in a sustainable and cost-effective way. 3. While geospatial data is not fully "open", it can currently be freely accessed. Usage analysis shows that the vast majority access the data through web services rather than direct downloads.

Federal Act on Geoinformation (2008) This Act has the aim of ensuring that geodata relating to the territory of the Swiss Confederation is made available for general use to the authorities of the Confederation, the cantons and communes, the private sector, the public and to academic and scientific institutions in a sustainable, up-to-date, rapid and easy manner, in the required quality and at a reasonable cost.
