Basic LTE Concepts/FAQs
• No Mobility
– Our solution is designed for home based users, therefore no
mobility is being offered.
• TDD Ratio:
– It is the ratio to configure downlink and uplink capacity
– Our network is currently deployed with Downlink=75% /
Uplink=25%
• SIM based authentication:
– In LTE, devices will be authenticated on the basis of SIM card
instead of device MAC address, as was the case in WIMAX.
– In case a device gets faulty, same SIM card can be installed in
new device, new provisioning will not be needed in this case.
• Transfer rates:
– Single Carrier
• Over 100Mbps on CAT-4 CPE
– Dual Carrier
• Over 370Mbps with Carrier Aggregation
• Bandwidth Allocation
– There is no configured bandwidth limitation on Site/Sector level
– Site/Sector throughput varies on the basis of RF environment,
Network utilization, backhaul network etc
• User Capacity per Site:
– 300 UEs per site, limited by software license. (upgradable)
– They can be distributed among sectors in any number.
• RF Parameters:/Nodes Identity:
– eNodeB ID : Unique Identity of a site
– UE : User Equipment
– MME : Mobility Management
– PGW : packet gateway, provides connectivity to Internet
– PCI : Physical Cell/sector Identity
– RSRP : Measurement of the Rx signal power.
– CINR : Carrier to Interference + Noise Ratio
• A number next to a parameter e.g. CINR0 or CINR1 denotes the value for
antenna 0 and antenna 1
• eNodeB ID & PCI together uniquely identify a sector in
the network.

Editor's Notes

  1. Wimax has given greenfield operators the opportunity to launch wireless broadband services in countless markets in emerging and developed countries, in urban and rural environments, as fixed broadband service or as a mobile service. Meanwhile, many longer-established WiMAX operators have decided to transition to Long Term Evolution (LTE) because of the wide support for the new technology and especially for its time-division LTE (TDD-LTE) version, a radio access technology (RAT) very similar to WiMAX and the advantages of converging to a single technology. With the exception of some vertical niche markets, most WiMAX operators will migrate to LTE, but the pace and modalities of the shift will vary greatly depending on geography, service focus, spectrum availability, and funding. Some operators want to move to LTE as quickly as possible, as this will open new markets and business opportunities to them. This is the case at Yota. The Russian operator has announced plans for a quick transition to LTE that will enable it to become a wholesale operator providing other operators access to its network. Some operators are moving to LTE at a more relaxed pace by adopting slow migration strategy.
