What is virtual private network
• A virtual private network is a mechanism for creating a secure
connection between a computing device and a computer
network, or between two networks, using an insecure
communication medium such as the public Internet
Types of VPN’S
• Remote- Access VPN
• Site-To Site VPN(Intranet based)
• Site To site VPN (Extranet Based)
How Does It Work
• A VPN encrypts your communications on whatever device
you're using, including phone, laptop, or tablet. It sends your
data through a secure tunnel to the VPN service provider's
servers. Your data is encrypted and rerouted to whatever site
you're trying to reach.
VPN Security: Firewalls
• A well-designed virtual private network used several methods for
keeping your connection and data secure:
• Firewalls
• Enccryption
• IPSec
• AAA Server
• You can set firewalls to restrict the number of open ports, what type of
packets are passed through and which protocols are allowed through.
VPN Advantages
 Multiple telephone lines and banks of modems at the central site are not
required.
 A reduction in the overall telecommunication infrastructure
 As the IPS provides the bulk of the network.
 Reduced cost of management, maintenance of equipment and technical
support.
 virtual private network functionality is already present in some IT equipment.
 Hide Your Private Information
VPN Disadvantages
 If the IPS or Internet connection is down, so is the virtual
private network
 The central site must have a permanent internet connection
so that remote clients and other sites can connect at anytime
 Loss of Access to Some Websites
 VPNs Are Illegal in Some Countries
Future OF VPN
• With more and more people working and learning
remotely, utilizing public Wi-Fi, and being mindful of
online privacy and security, it's no wonder VPN usage
is on the rise. The VPN market is predicted to grow at
a CAGR of 15.3% and reach $77.1bn by 2026, with
above-average growth in 2021.
Conclusion
 As we have gone through all possible details we conclude that virtual
private network Is The best option for the corporate networking.
 As many companies need to have access to internet and hence security is
also the main concern.
 virtual private network private best possible combination of security and
private network capabilities with adequate cost- saving to the companies
who are presently working with leased lines
