DataHub Journey to Cloud
DataHub introduced Cloud Service in 2016
 On-premise infrastructure mindset
 Security and privacy were among the top concerns
 Inexperienced in hardware and storage.
 Lack of Technical Resources for Cloud operation & management
 Lots of effort to educate the customers
Being an initiator wasn’t easy
Started with 3 hosts cluster and 2 hosts management + 1 Storage in ACS
Journey With Apache CloudStack
DataHub is the first in Nepal to start Apache CloudStack initially with
“Basic Zone” with 4.7
After 6 months we started our advanced zone with VPC advanced
We proudly have a Stable CloudStack setup with around 50+ hosts with
Multiple Storages in Multiple Zones
Key Challenges Implementing
CloudStack in DataHub
 Lack of technical local cloud expertise.
 Stability of VR, unpredicted behaviour, troubleshooting of VR used to
take a longer time
 CloudStack community
 Training and conferences for CloudStack & Opensource
Cloud Experience with CloudStack
 First local “Cloud Experience” in Nepal
 Self-service portal
 Helped to address the concerns of Privacy & Security
 Better Experience and performance
Cloud Experience with CloudStack
 Easy UI
 Opensource approach
 VPC
 Scalable
 Powerful API
 Role Based Access Control (RABC)

 Self Service Portal (Competitive Advantage from other VPS providers
locally)
 VPC Router for Tiering
 Snapshots
 Private Gateway for Extending the on-prem network to Cloud.
 Affordable Cloud compared to global Public Cloud Providers
 Automation with Terraform
