What is Streaming Platform?
 Streaming platforms are on demand online entertainment source for TV
shows, movies, sports and media. These services provide an alternative to
TV cable and satellite tv services with lower cost.
 Streaming platforms support numerous devices such as smart TVs,
streaming media receivers, computers, tablets and smartphones. Recorded
videos are stored on a cloud server which can be easily accessed by users
on any device at any place and time.
 Use of streaming services required fees which is charge through monthly
subscriptions or pay per view method. Example- Netflix, Amazon Prime,
Disney+ Hotstar.
 Some streaming services are free to watch as their revenue is through
advertisements. Example- YouTube, Twitch, spotify.

• Founded in 1997,Netflix is top streaming platform in
the world with 222 million subscribers worldwide.
• It is monthly subscription based and ad free
streaming platform.
• Prime video was launched in year 2006 and has 200
million active subscribers till now.
• It provides subscription based as well as video rental
service on its platform.
• Launched in year 2015, hotstar has 61 million subscriber
in India. It is popular among people for cricket live
streaming.
• It provides different subscription plans according to
content and devices.
 Youtube
 Spotify
• Youtube is online video streaming and social media
platform. Launched in year 2005, it is worlds second
largest search engine with 2 billion monthly visitors.
• The content on youtube is free and is entirely created
uploaded and managed by creators.
• Youtube earns most of its revenue from advertisements.
• Spotify is one of the largest music streaming service providers,
with over 456 million monthly active users, including 195
million paying subscribers.
• Spotify provides freemium service in which basic content are
free while additional features required charges.

for streaming services. More than 70% of millennials
are streaming videos daily.
• 5G technology and broadband services are now
allowing consumers to stream video in 4k quality.
• Digital technologies like DevOps, Cloud,
Microservices are used to collect data related to
viewership habits.
• Artificial intelligence and machine learning are
used to recommend movies and TV shows to users.

• To increase the profits lots of streaming platforms
are opting for ads on their platforms.
• Advertising on streaming platforms can garner high
rate of engagement as they are serving ads that
are more relevant to the targeted audience.
• Streaming platforms allows for better
measurement capabilities through real-time
analytics that help advertisers make more
informed strategic decisions.
