 Industrial engineering is a branch
of engineering which deals with the optimization
of complex process or systems.
 It is concerned with the development,
improvement, implementation of integrated
systems of people, money, knowledge,
information, equipment, energy, materials,
analysis and synthesis, as well as the
mathematical, physical and social sciences together
with the principles and methods of engineering
design to specify, predict, and evaluate the results
to be obtained from such systems or processes.
 Michigan 24,4306.
 Indiana 8,120
 Wisconsin 7,400
 Minnesota 7,380
 South Carolina 5,930
 13% of the engineers in the united states are
industrial engineers (220,000). Become third
after civil and mechanical engineers.
 Job growth 10% since 2010.
 Since 2012 the numbers of postings(24,740) is
three times more that the average monthly
hiring(7,737).
 Expected to grow 5% in 2022.
 Facility Design :aimed at operational efficiency. 4% lower than
average
 Management Decision Making : using statistics and other forms
of data analysis to aid in making management decisions. Average
growing
 Manufacturing Engineering: concerned with all aspects of
manufacturing operations – materials, parts, equipment, facilities,
labor, finished products, delivery, etc. 65% of industrial engineers
 Quality Control :using sampling, statistical analysis and other
techniques to assess and maintain the quality of products or
services provided by a business or other organization. Grow very
slow
 Work Design: defining jobs that individual workers do in
performing the overall work of the organization. Average growing

 Because the industrial engineer might have knowledge in various
areas the technology drivers are spread. The six sigma is one of
the most import subject that drives his carrier, tha six sigma is
characterized by a systematic approach which aims to reduce
costs, increase and improve the efficiency of the organization,
through optimization of products and processes, with a
consequent increase in customer satisfaction.
 Another technology that is import in the carrier of the industrial
engineer is the Project management software, with this his
capacity to help plan, organize, and manage resource pools and
develop resource estimates. Depending on the sophistication of
the software, it can manage estimation and
planning, scheduling, cost control and budget
management, resource allocation, collaboration
software, communication, decision-making, quality management
and documentation or administration systems.Today, numerous
PC & browser based project management software solutions exist
and they are finding their way into almost every type of business
 ‘Cancer seeing’ technology- PRaVDA
 world’s first technology for use in cancer treatment. Uses proton beams to localize
treatment and cause less damage to healthy tissue. Reduces side effects of
radiotherapy significantly compared to the conventional x-rays. Won Global award
from the IET for best in innovation. Demonstrates how advancements engineering
and technology can solve problems related to other industries like healthcare.
 Currently under three-year project for more demonstration before this technology
can be manufactured and used for our welfare. After the success of the project
several Sub disciplines such as manufacturing engineering, quality control and
design can be used for further marketing.
 This technology will be the latest and require senior engineers experience along
with young engineers. It will require senior manager, consultant, head of
operations, strategic planner and various experts from business department. After
this technology is widely accepted and used in hospitals, it will involve more
young engineers, like project managers, quality assurance engineers,
manufacturing engineers etc.
