This document summarizes feedback from a survey on a title card for a film trailer. 65% of respondents did not like the title card because it was too busy and messy. Suggestions for improving the title card included having the text pop onto the screen unexpectedly, flash in and out while moving from place to place, or fade onto the screen with shadows. Respondents also thought adding special effects like fog or smoke would make the title card more interesting. Based on this feedback, the creator plans to simplify the background but add movement like shadows, fog or smoke and make the text appear and disappear on the screen.

1. Do you like the title card? 65% 35% = NO = YES
2. Why do you or don’t you like the title card? “Because there is too much going on and it looks messy” “It looks scary as there is the mixture of red and black - linking in with the film genre” “It reminds me of curtains at a theatre and a drama show is going to begin” “I just don’t find it interesting, especially that there is no movement going to be involved”
3. How would you expect the text to be shown in the trailer? “Popping on to the screen from nowhere, so that it is unexpected similar to most scenes in horror films” “Appear together with the background and flashing in and out moving from one place to a different one so that we have to keep looking for it” “Fade on to the screen from the background, and with shadows to connote ghosts” “Slide from either left or right and suddenly stop in the middle unexpectedly” are some of the comments which I found interesting the other ones were too simple and v
4. Do you expect any special effects with the title card or text? “Yes definitely, having a special effect such as fog or smoke would make a huge difference as it will make it more interesting” “Not really, I am more interested in the content of the trailer so the story and the action happening” “Yes, adding effects would be a great idea as it will attract the audience to watch the film” “Yes, effects make a huge impact on the final outcome of a trailer”
Discussion! • I was extremely disappointed when my audience did not like my title background as I worked really hard on it. However I did gain a lot of good feedback so for instance I am definitely going to use these ideas: • “Appear together with the background and flashing in and out moving from one place to a different one so that we have to keep looking for it” • “Yes definitely, having a would make a huge difference as it will make it more interesting” • The new background I am going to keep very simplistic however I am going to make sure that there is going to be movement involved within it so either shadows, fog or smoke. I am also going to attempt to make the text appear to be disappearing and appearing on the screen.
