Exploration Well Schedule Optimizer (EWSO)
EXPLORATION OBJECTIVES
• Replace Oil Production
• Increase Gas Reserves
OPTIMIZATION and IMPACT ANALYSIS
• Optimize the Drilling Schedule based on proposed
changes to one or more Metrics.
• Analyze the impact of proposed changes to Well
Slot Allocation and/or Metrics.
• Most metrics are variable and EWSO must have the
capability to run sensitivities to analyze the impact
of various possibilities.
• Some of the Metrics are fixed (e.g. Budgets and Rig
Years) and therefore, EWSO must have the
capability to display the impact of proposed
changes on them.
will facilitate
real-time Impact Analysis and Optimization
to meet Objectives

BUSINESS RULES
FOR OBJECTIVES AND METRICS
 Well Slot Allocation
 geographic limitations for rigs
 gas versus oil rig and oil versus gas rig change
 maximum limit of mobilization distances and costs
 activity distribution between divisions and oil and gas
 will allow exploration wells to be moved, but not development wells
 will allow exploration wells to be slotted between development wells
 in this case, approval will be required from Production on moves involving changes in
development well schedule
 will not allow wells to be moved into the 4-6 month window prior to spud
 will not allow wells to be moved into 6 month window prior to spud
unless staking and/or site preparation has been initiated/approved
 Portfolio Profile
 risk profile of active wells in Drilling Schedule (POS and objectives)
 adherence to Exploration Strategies (focus areas)
must be built into EWSO to ensure that
proposed changes are technically feasible,
and in compliance with Business and Operating Plans,
as well as Aramco policies and procedures
