This document discusses automatic translation of content in Adobe CQ using Clay Tablet software. It provides an overview of the manual translation process, how Clay Tablet is configured in CQ, and the process for sending content to translation providers and loading translations back into CQ. Customizations are described, such as setting a flag when translations are loaded and preserving the original page version. Challenges with context loss during translation are also mentioned.

Did You Know That ... … your toothpaste contains an average of more than 50 components? The mix is determined with the help of our analytical balances. And it’s accurate right down to the microgram!
Did You Know That ... ... beer quality has been monitored since the beginning of brewing? Today it’s an automated process with our sensors. Hops and malt would be lost without them!
Did You Know That ... ... your child can bite into an ice cream without any worry of popping out a tooth? Every day – with no ifs, ands or buts! Our detectors spot even the smallest foreign objects.
Did You Know That ... … Fahim weighed 140 kg a week after he was born? And his father weighs over 5 tons! Once a month, all of the elephants in the zoo are weighed on our scales. And the terminal delivers all the big numbers.

10 • Purpose of the website is to collect leads, i.e. fill out our "feedback form" to request more info, request a quote, etc. • Authors in 36 countries, plus 6 regions comprised of countries without a local marketing organization • Translations in 24 languages • Most recent additions were Indonesian and Vietnamese • Structure is established at a global level, with country-language versions as MSM live copies. • Typically content is created under /global and tagged to the countries it applies to • Our workflow process then rolls out the language to the countries to which it's tagged Content structure example • /global • /en • /fr • /de • /it • /es • /us • /en • /es • /ch • /de • /en • /fr • /it GLOBAL MT.COM

13 • Install the CQ package from Clay Tablet • Translations are launched from the sidekick, or from the Translation queue, available from CQ welcome screen. • Set up the fields for translation • Not every field within a component needs to be translated • We define each field for each resource type that should be sent out for translation • Set up the language mappings • Our languages are established at global level; not country specific. • For example, we choose to map de to de-CH (German_Switzerland) • Other config • Email notifications • Database connection string • Location of translation files on disk AUTOMATIC TRANSLATIONS IN CQ Configuration
14 • Clay Tablet establishes the connection with Welocalize, our translation provider • Authors send a job from CQ • source file created on file system • passes through Clay Tablet servers • is routed to the translation system at Welocalize • Generally content authors still communicate directly with the translators at Welocalize • To obtain a quote before proceeding with the job • To include offline content in the same quote • Translation is returned • polling thread in Clay Tablet package in CQ checks for translated content • creates file on file system • loads translation into repository For a test environment, we use the automatic translation service provided by Clay Tablet, so translation jobs are returned right away. 16 • Our site uses MSM. OOTB Clay Tablet kicks off a workflow when content is rolled out, but we choose to load translations into the global structure, and then they are rolled out and activated manually by content authors after the translations are verified. • We wrote a custom step to set a page property "isTranslated" when a translated page is uploaded. • We create a page version before and after translations are loaded, so the original version is preserved. 17 AUTOMATIC TRANSLATION PROCESS Challenges • Standard translation challenge – providing context for the translators • Context is lost when only text is provided • Include the path, but translators don't have access to our author environment • Future customization: provide a screenshot of the source page, and upload to internet service such as awesomescreenshot.com; include link to the screenshot in the translation file
