Evaluation of computer based tools for research Common tools available ATLAS.ti Its purpose is to help researchers uncover and systematically analyze complex phenomena hidden in text and multimedia data. The program provides tools that let the user locate, code, and annotate findings in primary data material, to weigh and evaluate their importance, and to visualize complex relations between them. SPSS SPSS is a computer program used for statistical analysis and used by market researchers, health researchers, survey companies, government, education researchers, and others.
Evaluation of computer based tools for research Microsoft Project Microsoft Project (or MSP) is a project management software program developed and sold by Microsoft which is designed to assist project managers in developing plans , assigning resources to tasks , tracking progress, managing budgets and analyzing workloads. Hyper Research Hyper RESEARCH allows you to work with text, graphics, audio and video sources making it an invaluable research analysis tool for Qualitative Data Analysis
Evaluation of computer based tools for research Nud*ist NUD*IST is a multi-functional software system for the development, support and management of qualitative data analysis(QDA) projects. It is used in a wide range of research for handling Non numerical Unstructured Data by processes of Indexing Searching and Theory-building. EndNote EndNote is a commercial reference management software package, used to manage bibliographies and references when writing essays and articles. It is made by Thomson ISI ResearchSoft . (Our evaluation tools)
ATLAS.ti - Introduction help researchers uncover and systematically analyze complex phenomena hidden in text and multimedia data. provides tools that let the user locate, code, and annotate findings in primary data material, to weigh and evaluate their importance, and to visualize complex relations between them
ATLAS.ti - Introduction consolidates large volumes of documents and keeps track of all notes, annotations, codes and memos in all fields that require close study and analysis of primary material consisting of text, images, audio, or video data. provides analytical and visualization tools designed to open new interpretative views on the material.
ATLAS.ti - Introduction used predominantly by researchers and practitioners in the social sciences, but also by professionals in a wide variety of other fields ranging from criminology to medicine, market research, and the media. not a transcription tool in itself, but is frequently used to analyze and evaluate transcribed materials.
ATLAS.ti – Screen of Demo version
ATLAS.ti - Features Coding of text, image, audio and video materials (interactive and automated) Rich Text and Rich Media support with embedded active objects ( MS Excel , images, etc, incl. East Asian and Middle Eastern language) Interactive margin area with drag & drop linking, coding, merging Search & retrieve functions (incl. Boolean, semantic, and proximity-based operators)
ATLAS.ti - Features Visual model building and "mind mapping" (Network Editor) Creation and navigation of hyperlinks between resources (Hypertext) Searching for textual patterns (Object Crawler ) Semi-automatic coding with multi-string text search and professional pattern matching ("GREP") Proximity analysis of coded data (Cooccurrency Explorer) Project data export to SPSS , HTML , XML , CSV Creation of presentations ( XML / XSLT converter)
Atlas/ti's strengths Visually attractive / creative All features on screen at once Well designed interface No limits on units of coding: can code any amount of text as one unit Hypertext links between data /codes /documents (i.e. click on one jump to the other)
Atlas/ti's strengths Conceptual network displays which can be manipulated Can include text segments and memos in network displays Assists creative and visualized theoretical thinking Memos can be multiply linked Can process audio and visual Best used on screen
Atlas/ti's weakness It has few limitations Compare to Nudist - Nudist are more strength on its more structured organization, its project management functions and its sophisticated searching and documents can be annotated, edited or appended after import Unstructured : loose structure and uncertainty Limited searching capacity Limited case and project management tools Can't alter or annotate files

Evaluation of Research Tool EndNote By HATS
In Brief: A personal citation/bioliography manager software program manufactured by Thomson Corporation. Latest Version EndNote X. For both Windows and Mac Platforms. It helps researchers to organize and format citations from references like journal articles, books, personal notes during the writing process.
An EndNote library appears in a library window:
Features Allow you to search for online literature. Develop personal library of references. Create and format citations for papers and publications. Create bibliographies automatically in word processing software.
Searching For Online Database Use the Connect command to connect and search for other online databases. Can download references into EndNote library. Hyperlinks go directly from a reference to its location on the Web.
Sorting and Preferences Easily import references into your own EndNote library. Can import and organize citations from other databases, such as journal indexes.
Changing EndNote Preferences
Cataloging and Tracking Info EndNote allows manual data entry for each source that helps to remember what the references are for.
Viewing a Reference's Attached File
Selecting an Output Style Output styles define the formatting of in-text citations, footnotes, and bibliographies. Different output styles are very useful when you submit an article to several different publishers, each of which has different formatting requirements for references.
Cite When You Write Insert formatted citation directly from the library to the research paper on a word processor.
Saving a Compressed Copy of a Library You can save your complete library (including its associated .DATA folder and all of its contents) to a single compressed file. EndNote will only save the file as a compressed library file (.enlx extension).
Conclusion Although EndNote’s interface is easy to understand, it takes the time to learn how to use EndNote thoroughly. You need to edit some records in your EndNote library to get the references to format properly. Only EndNote can open the compressed .enlx file
