Main street and The Generic city In this lecture, I learned a .docxAASTHA76
Main street and The Generic city
In this lecture, I learned a lot of about the urban design. Like the cities in history, how the cities are planned and how to recognize the fabric of the urban. Organic, geometric or hybrid of the two.
Over through the book, The birth of urban design was after the industrial revolution and world war I, the CIAM and the idea of urban design was coming up from Europe and developed in United States. Many people who are knowledgeable and has creative thinking is make up a group called “Creative class”. It is a group believed to bring economic growth to countries that can attract its members. They are the key driver of urban design development in the industrial city in the United States.
Then the large scale urban renewal projects in the US started in the interwar period as an attempt to clear out blight inner cities and it is called urban renewal plan.
Many future concept of urban planning and design is also coming up in that time. One of the creative concept is The Generic City which come from Rem Koolhass. He mainly expressed the negation of the identity of the city, thereby to bring the theory of the Generic city as the city in the future. In general, the Generic city concept promoted by Koolhaas is a city with nonidentity, no history, no center, high efficient, can tolerate many different kinds of people from different area or country.
As time goes by, up to twenty first-century, Urbanism takes shape. Because of the rapidly changing economy, the innovation neighborhood is appeared. It is new area that combines living, working, shopping and the private sector. The private sector is the businesses in research- driven industries such as pharmaceuticals, technology, specialized manufacturing, university and educational or healthcare institution. With the innovation neighborhood came up, the traditional neighborhood street Main street is functioned as “Third places”, neither home nor workplace. People in this street can see movies, eat at restaurants, attended church, etc. In United States, after Depression and World war II, many people have their own car and very few neighborhoods could continue to support Main Street as a retail center. Most urban Main Street did not retain their traditional scale and character. The Suburban malls grew larger and came to dominate their markets. Then the urban Main Street should be focus on amenity, walkability, and authenticity, local experience that are the antithesis of the formulas and mass production that drive suburban malls.
As the city developed, urban designer should look forward. As the Generic city concept, if a city have traditional city center, it has a heavy price to continuous support, restoration the traditional city center. It is neither practical nor constraining the development of the nearby area if the traditional ancient center continues become the city center in the future. It is like human will lost themselves by worshiping the patrimony of their a.

Portfolio of Family Coat of Arms, devised by Kasyanenko Rostyslav, ENGRostyslav Kasyanenko
The Ukrainian and German journalist Rostyslav Kasyanenko has dedicated himself to genealogical research and heraldry. Originally Ukrainian, now living in Munich (Bavaria) he working in Ukrainian Free University (Est. 1921) as archivist. Curator of Heraldic Teams, Member of Ukrainian Heraldry Society (UHS) R.Kasyanenko is Deviser of the Family and Municipal Coat of Arms and Author of the exhibition concept project: “Maritime flags and arms of the Black Sea countries vs. Mediterranean: what has changed in 175 years?”
Author of scientific articles (2023-24):

Heraldry as a marker of evolution of national identity in Ukraine and Slovakia: from the Princely era to the "Spring of Nations" (XI-XIX centuries)
Historical parallels in the formation of national awareness in Ukraine and Slovakia in modern times (1848-1992)

According to the heraldist, he has worked with many heraldic artists over
the years. However, he developed the ideas for all the coats of arms himself, except for his own. The case of the Kasyanenko (from the Shovkoplias clan) family coat of arms — featuring an audacious Cossack riding a rhinoceros — deserves special attention. "After all, one could talk about one's own crest, just like one's ancestors, for an eternity," he says.
A visual identity is the heart and soul of a place, embodying its unique
character and heritage. By carefully preserving this essence, we can ensure
that new elements blend seamlessly, honoring the past while embracing
the future.
2. Elevator Pitch
I am here to pitch the concept of utilizing the RFID
chips in EDC wristbands to track crowd density
through the festival stages, bathrooms, and medical
tents and streaming it through their app. This will
enhance safety by allowing analytics and live feed
of crowd density in the festival. And it will give EDC
guests a chance to dodge large crowds and lines.
4. What is EDC?
The Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is a globally
renowned electronic dance music festival known for its
elaborate stage setups, stunning visual effects, and a
lineup of top international DJs.
It takes place in November in Orlando, Fl.
Attendance from 2023 was reported at 300,000!
(Staff, 2023)
One of the most common issues with EDC is the crowd
density and overcrowded, dirty bathrooms
5. Who Goes to EDC?
Geographics
The geographics for EDC are as follows:
Tier 1 cities (NYC, LA, Miami, Orlando, etc.)
Surrounding Orlando cities (Tampa, Ocala,
Fort Lauderdale, Tallahassee, etc.)
Psychographics
The Psychographics for EDC are as follows:
Social Media Fans
Enjoys parties, festivals, large events
Enjoys EDM Music
Tech Savvy or into modern tech
Trend Followers
Values experiences
(Voigt, 2018)
Demographics
The demographics for EDC are as follows:
18-24 Years Old
Male and Female (with strength in female)
25K-49K Income
High degree or some college
Single
(Voigt, 2018)
7. And how is it used today?
The Insomniac App
The Insomniac app is the home base for all Insomniac
events’ information. This includes EDC. This app can be
used for maps, food and beverage locations, bathroom
locations, emergency assistance, and more. What it is not
utilizing is updated crowd density maps for the stages,
bathrooms, and medical tents.
8. Why is this important?
Safety for events like these are incredibly important. Monitoring crowd density from the event host
perspective is a great way to determine future layouts or emergency control.
Safety
Festival goers can enjoy the convenience of being able to predict their next movements to stages or
bathrooms by viewing this information in the app.
Convenience
9. How it works?
All wristbands already contain an RFID chip to allow
cashless payments. It allows them for speedy entrance
as well as managing VIP sections with quick scanning.
(RFID wristbands for music festivals – 6 benefits) This
chip can also be tracks. To protect privacy issues, the
tracking data can be turned off after festival hours.
During festival hours, this data can be streamed through
the app. (RFID asset tracking: How does it work & what
are the best solutions 2024)
11. Cost & Time
Cost Already Spent
The insomniac app is already well developed
and maintained on a daily basis
RFID Chips already exist in all EDC wristbands
These are costs that Insomniac already pays for
when EDC is running.
New Cost
New development in the app ($10K-30K)
App Maintenance ($250-$500)(Ranjan, 2024)
Data Transmission
Privacy Protection Consulting ($100 an Hr)
(Nguyen, 2021)
In-app promotion
To develop an entire app can average around 6-9 months. (Titenok, 2024) Because
this is only addition, let’s split this time in half. This gives time to develop, test, and
QC the content.
Time
12. Thank you
Thank you for listening to how the RFID
Wristbands can be utilized to track crowd
density at EDM festivals like EDC for safety
and convenience of the guest.
