Import Content Store Package into New Server (Import of all ODBC/DSN and Applications and Links and Analyst Libraries and Publish Tables and Analyst Links). Test Cognos Connection Test Access Permissions Test Credentials Test Cog Connection Handover for UAT and Knowledge Transfer Setup of LDAP and Security Model Initial Security Users, Groups, and Roles Using Life Cycle Manager, create a Validation Project to compare the new install with the existing install. Also do Visual validation of the reports. Leverage Cognos 10 New Features (e g Dynamic Query Use Lifecycle e.g. Query, etc.) Installation on Planning Client Components 2. Installing fix packs Before you install the fix pack, create a backup of the content store database. In addition, back up any customized files from the current installation. Procedure

Stop the following services:  IBM Cognos service.  IBM Cognos Controller Batch Server  IBM Cognos Controller Java Proxy  IBM Cognos Controller User Manager  IBM Cognos FAP Service  Internet Information Services (IIE) Manager (the Default Web Site)  Components Services IBMCOGNOSCONTROLLER 2. Back up the content store database. 3. If your IBM Cognos BI environment is customized, back up the entire IBM Cognos BI location. 4. Insert the disk for the Microsoft Windows operating system fix pack or go to the location where you downloaded and extracted the files. If more than one fix pack is available, install the fix pack with the lowest version number first. 5. On the disk or in the download location, go to the win32 directory and double-click the issetup.exe file. 6. Follow the directions in the installation wizard, installing in the same location as your existing IBM Cognos BI server components.

MBA Premier Institute, BI Director ) Page 8 of 11 The issetup program prompts you to allow the fix pack to create a backup copy in the installation folder before copying new files. 7. If an updater is available, do the following:  To install from a disk, insert the updater disk for the Windows operating system.  To install from a download, follow the instructions on the support site and then go to the location where you downloaded and extracted the files.  In the updater directory on the disk or download location, go to the win32 directory and double-click the issetup.exe file.  Follow the directions in the installation wizard. 8. Upgrade your Controller application databases. 9. To return a deployed IBM Cognos BI product to service, open IBM Cognos Configuration, save the configuration, and then start the IBM Cognos service. 10. If you have a distributed environment, repeat these steps for all remaining IBM Cognos BI servers. 11. If you are running the IBM Cognos BI product on an application server other than the default, Tomcat, redeploy the IBM Cognos BI product to the application server. 12. Start the Internet Information Services (IIE) Manager (the Default Web Site). 13. Components Services IBMCOGNOSCONTROLLER.

Evaluate the Current System - Auditing and Survey’s - System Resources - Document the Current System and target system (AS-IS to TO-BE, Licenses, general issues, Compatibility) 2. Create Detailed Migration Plan - Milestones and WBS daily tasks in excel and any preferred Project management tool. 3. Prepare the Test Environment - Perform installation system requirements 4. Review the supported environments 5. Create an IBM Cognos Controller database 6. Create the content store 7. Configure the Web browser 8. Install order in which cognos server components must be installed and configured – First Content Manager, Application Tier and Reporting, Gateway, Client distribution server, Install client interfaces, Test installation and finally enable security

Install and configure Microsoft .NET Framework 10. Perform Install and Migration, first Development system then TestQA system and finally Production system 11. Perform Consistency Check before upgrademigration and save result to compare consistency check after upgrademigration 12. Deprecated features should be made compliant and mitigation plan should be documented 13. Upgrade Content Store (Database upgrade only here and content maintenance task, no reports upgrade at this startup stage) 14. Perform Cognos configuration upgrade through exportimport 15. Customize all items require customization e.g. Cognos Connections and system files (system.xml) 16. Perform Complete Application Testing, validate all reports in different format HTML,PDF, CSV and cognos objects 17. Resolve Validation/Configuration Issues 18. Revise Migration Plan periodically and communicate to all stakeholders 19. Performance Comparison/Test before Cognos 10 Go Live 20. Prepare AS-IS Analysis document of list of all Cubes, Links, Tables, Review Model and Dept. Tree Structures in the source system for Cognos Planning 21. When installing the Planning Server kit the best practice will be to install all Planning Service options and disable those services via Cognos Configuration that are not needed. This approach is recommended in case the server needs to be re-purposed in the future then without needing to install additional services the services can be enabled easily via Cognos Configuration 22.
