- Before talking about architecture, I want all of us to be on the same plate regarding what is Smart Grid. It reminds me of the elephant and blind people story each time I talk about Smart GridDepends on whom you talk to about Smart Grid, it is end-all or be-all or it is just AMIFor communications perspective, if you look at the use cases, There are multiple ways to think about Smart Grid. One is the functional domains, the generation, transmission, distribution, consumers, service providers. From a communications perspective, the talk about places in the network that the use cases travel from source to destination, the communications it requires to make an intelligent decision.The end devices might be at the substations, at the field area or the customer area. The applications are at the operations and data center. We will look at how do we build these places in the network and the communications channel (inter network communications channel)
