The world is ageing.
“This new age pyramid has enormous socio-economic implications and demands a paradigm shift in social and health care while creating new requirements for social inclusion and access to public services. At the same time, the complexity and lack of accessibility and usability of many ICT-based products and services is a major barrier for many people. ”€73 Million is beinginvested in research over the next 7 years. EU – Objective 2007.7.1 - ICT and Ageing

Editor's Notes

  1. 11 million people of statepension age and overA man of 60 could expect to live for another 20.5years and a woman of the same age for 23.6years
  2. 30% of Europe isn’t in the information Society.
  3. One in eight (13%) older people says they would like to learn more about various elements of media, compared to 32% of all adults. Some 7% of older people say they are interested in learning about the internet, and 7% say they have already learned about it through classes or training. Those aged over 75, and those living alone, are significantly less likely to express interest in, or say that they have learned already, about aspects of the media.
  4. A suit designed for the Japanese market. With an increased age everyone will suffer from various conditions which can impair independent living, e.g. cognitive impairment, visual and hearing impairments, frailty due to disease (IPTS, 2006). These factors can have a direct affect on the design of future products, regardless of any issues of technical literacy and technophobia.
  5. be "Experience Prototyping" as a form of prototyping that enables design team members, users and clients to gain first-hand appreciation of existing or future conditions through active engagement with prototypes. We use examples from commercial design projects to illustrate the value of such prototypes in three critical design activities: understanding existing experiences, exploring design ideas and in communicating design concepts.
  6. A user keeps up to date by placing a friend pass on the display. A friend pass is digital link to already available social and personal information. Once the friend pass is placed on one of three areas of the screen a tangible interface if triggered allowing interaction with the person associated with the friend pass. Staying in touch is made easy!.
