Backward Chaining Balaji C Karthikeyan KS Rajesh Kumar R
Definition of Backward Chaining The process in rule-based systems that constructs a hypothesis, then tests it by working backward through the rules to see if the hypothesis is supported. The strategy of teaching tasks in reverse of the order in which they are done on the job. a form of reasoning that starts with the conclusion and works backward. The goal is broken into many subgoals or sub-subgoals which can be solved more easily. Known as top-down approach. www.backwardchaining.com
Backward Chaining Backward Chaining is goal driven, appropriate for problem solving e.g. Where are my key? How do I get my AI Program? Idea: work backwards from the query q : check if q is known already, or prove by BC all premises of some rule concluding q Avoid loops: check if new subgoal is already on the goal stack Avoid repeated work: check if new subgoal has already been proved true, or has already failed to prove q by BC,
