Life as We Knew It!
What is the “Cloud”?
The “cloud” is a general
term for anything that
involves delivering hosted
services over the Internet.

1. Infrastructure-as-a-
   Service (IaaS)

2. Platform-as-a-Service
   (PaaS)

3. Software-as-a-Service
   (SaaS)
Why use the cloud?

 No installation, configuration, or maintenance is
  necessary

 Not platform specific

 Anything you create using a cloud application can be
  stored in the cloud

 Free or pay-for-service

 The ability to share and collaborate online with other
  people
Some Disadvantages

 You do not have control over the server, software, or
  security

 Your data is in the hands of a third-party company

 Relies totally on network connections – no network or
bogged down network, no or slow access

 Service can lack advanced features of software

 Students need unique login and password – there are some
  exceptions

 Sometimes things just don’t work as expected, or change
  without notice
Online Course Overview

 To use a variety of cloud computing services which will
allow the student to create a website that functions as
digital briefcase (which we call an eCase). Its purpose is
similar to an electronic portfolio, and will contain
elements that represent the student, what they are
currently actively doing and pursuing, and showcase all
important coursework from the class, as well as work from
  other MUED and Core classes.
Apps We’re Using
 Weebly

 PBWorks

 Noteflight

 Sound Cloud

 Podomatic

 Slideshare | Prezi

 Picnik | SumoPaint

 Google

 Jing
What’s in the eCase?
 Home

 About: Biography | Statement of Purpose

 Digital Media Projects: Podcast | PPT or Prezi | YouTube |
                 Screencast

 Lesson Resources: Noteflight | SoundCloud

 Calendar

 Webliography

 Blog

 Reflection
How Does it Work?

 The power of the Custom HTML widget

Each of the cloud apps we use can be embedded (shared)
into Weebly by simply copying and pasting the particular cloud
app’s embed code into Weebly’s Custom HTML widget.
How Does it Work?
