AGILE
- BRIEF INTRODUCTION
What Is Agile
Adaptive and continuous process for
product management and product development
Not limited to Software development
It can be used anywhere that involves process;
Even in personal development process.
AGILE: Characteristic
Incremental: Repeat<Plan, Develop, Release>
Iterative: Continuous<Feedback, Improve> (product & process both)
Focus on value: Reevaluate highest valued part of product
Team: Specialists in respective areas.
AGILE: Scientific approach
SCIENTIFIC METHOD AGILE
HYPOTHESIS PLAN
EXPERIMENT EXECUTE & RELEASE
OBSERVE RESULTS FEEDBACK (on work and process)
REPEAT & IMPROVE REPEAT & IMPROVE
AGILE: Advantages
Quick response to change.
Various Agile reports available that helps
To plan the work
To estimate the work well
Provide transparency
Helps to identify and remove bottlenecks for the team and thus improve the
performance
AGILE: Manifesto
Strong Empowered Team
• Motivated Individuals
• Self organised team
• Strong Collaboration for shared understanding
Embrace Change
• Partner with customer
• Continuous feedback
• Self-inspect (retrospection) and adapt
Incremental
• Conversation and collaboration with stake holders
• Sustainable pace
• Completed work items are measure of success
Focus On value
• Simplicity
• Eliminate waste
• Maintain quality
AGILE: Principles Simplified
Kanban: Manage continuous queue of work.
Scrum
XP- eXtreme Programming
AGILE: Methods
Light most method among other AGILE methods.
Efficient.
Idle for continuous flow of work, so fits very well to service-oriented environment.
It is good practice to set min and max number of issues for each of the Kanban
board column. Specially for the “In Progress” column.
Measure of success- Issues reached to done status.
AGILE: Kanban Method
One of the most popular Agile framework.
It is based on unit called- SPRINT> which essentially means time-boxed period in which a unit
(increment) of work (project) is to be completed.
A great emphasis on the meetings- [Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Review, Sprint
Retrospection]
Highly coherent to Agile principles of transparency, collaboration of team, continuous delivery
and improvement.
Measure of work- Velocity- i.e. the rate at which work is completed. (Usually story points
delivered per sprint)
AGILE: Scrum
Push- Performer is assigned the task.
Pull- Performer takes up the task to be done once he is ready.
AGILE: Pull vs Push
Lead Time: Duration between task creation and completion. (Backlog to Done)
Cycle Time: Duration between task start time and completion. (In Progress to
Done)
AGILE: Lead Time and Cycle Time
