Introduce yourself
Before we get stuck in, lets create your profile page. In
the top right you will find a link to ❁ Your profile.
From here you can edit profile. Add a short bio about yourself
and don't forget the picture - or you will forever remain a lego-
man!
From here you can also manage your email subscriptions.
By default, you will receive one summary email per day with all updates
from across your groups over the last 24 hours.
You can turn this on or off, set the frequency and even customise it so
that you are only notified of activity linked with particular categories.
Simply un-tick the categories you don’t wish to get updates from.
Personal updates are sent out immediately, like when someone mentions
you or interacts with a post you have followed. Please note the option to
choose whether you want to automatically follow posts you interact with.
You’re ready to start!
Go back to the personal dashboard by clicking the
Noddlepod “home” button at the top left of your
screen.
Click on any of your groups to get started!

Navigating your group
A group in Noddlepod is where everything happens and where all the
data and knowledge is stored.
When you open a group, you are taken to this page:
In the middle is your activity stream, which shows you the the most recent
content and activity of the group. This is also where you can contribute to
the discussions and create your own posts.
The activity stream is organised with the most recent posts at the top, as
you scroll down it goes further and further
back in time.
Hit the like button to give a thumbs up to
the author. You can also follow posts to get updated with any changes to
or or comments on the post.
View post will open it in its own window. Posts that have more content
than is displayed in the activity stream also has a read more link taking you
to this page.
Page 5
A place for everything
-and everything in its place
On the left hand side are the
categories for your group.
These are arranged by the
administrator and provide a place
for everything that this group is
about.
What these categories are depend
on the nature of your group, they
could be course modules, project
stages or subject matters of interest
to your group.
Click on a category to only see posts
related to a particular topic. You can
also customise your email
notifications based on the
categories more relevant to you.
Above the category structure this is a also a tab that allows you to view
and filter content by tags. This and you will see a tag-cloud for your group
sorted alphabetically. Click on one of the tags and you will only see posts
that have been given that tag.
This makes it easy to find what you’re looking for and keep up to date
with activities that have a particular relevance to you.
Page 6
Get the overview
To the right of your activity stream is a Collapse all posts button, which will
show you the activity stream as a collapsed list.
Whether you are
viewing all posts or
just those for a
particular category
or tag, you can
quickly get an
overview by
selecting this
collapsed view.
You can open up
the posts that
interests you by
clicking expand
post.
There is also the search bar where you can search for content by using
specific keywords. The search will for the moment only provide hits within
text or comment fields.
Page 7
Post your thoughts..
It is time to post something of your own...
It could be something as simple as a question, or a thought that you
would like to share with the other members of your group.
To quickly add a very
simple post, have a
look at the top of your
Activity Stream —>
You will see a text box
that says Share your Thoughts.
Type in what you would like to say or paste in a url-link to something that
inspired you. If you paste in a url to a youtube clip or image from the web
it will automatically be embedded in your post. Magic!
You are also given the option to specify the category your post relates to.
Don't worry if your test post doesn't really relate to any of the categories
or if you are unsure where to place it. You don't have to categorise
content and you or your administrator can always categorise it later on.
Click Post and you’re done!
Page 8
Comment and discuss
Have a look at the bottom of one of the posts in your group and you will
see a comment field.
This is where you can add
your 2 cents about an issue
raised, ask questions related
to post and chat with your
fellow group members.
Give it a try!
Say thanks to someone for
sharing something useful,
then click Save comment
and you've just posted a
comment!
@mention someone
“@-mentioning” people is great for directing a question to a specific
person, delegating responsibilities or making sure specific people take
note of your message.
Simply type in the “@“ symbol and a dropdown list will appear containing
all the names of everyone in that group. Select a name and that person
will be notified that they have been mentioned in your comment!
When you have @mentioned someone, a link to their profile will appear in
your comment or post.

Page 9
Get creative..
For the more considered pieces of content (this could be your reflection
after a workshop, a presentation or
an article you want to share with
the group) click the more options
link just below the post button.
The text field will expand, giving
you a lot more options to format and embed rich content into your post.
The toolbar gives you various
options to format your text, add
a link or embed videos and other
rich media.
Options include:
•Give your note a title and
format your text.
•Copy and paste text from
somewhere else.
•Create lists and tables.
•Insert links to other resources
and websites.
•Embed pictures and videos
from all over the internet.
Just below the text field on the
right is an option to “add
attachment”, which will ask you to select a document to upload from your
computer. Simply click the “add another file” link to add multiple
documents.
Attached documents will appear at the bottom of your post as an icon or
thumbnail (for image files).

Page 10
..when you’re ready
You can also choose to make a post private.
Ticking the private option, saves the post as
a draft and allows you to come back and edit it some more before sharing
it with your group.
Should you wish, you can also save your own personal notes in Noddlepod
and keep them together with the provided content and the group’s
activity.
Collaborate
Making a post collaborative means
everyone in the group can make
amendments to your post.
A little “collaborative” label is added to your post, signalling to others that
they are welcome to edit.
You can see who did what and also return to previous versions of the post
in “view post history”.

Page 11
Organise and link
At the bottom there are a few handy options for keeping things
organised.
Select which category your post belongs to from the dropdown at the
bottom left. The structure of categories are set up by the administrator
and helps organise content in a group.
A post can only belong to one category, but can have several tags - linking
content across categories. You can select from existing tags or write your
own. The lists of tags will narrow down as you type. Simply click to select.
Organising content means your post will be displayed together with
related content and easy to find in retrospect. Only you and group
administrators can categorise your content.
Happy Noddling!
