1. Quick Edit
 Business Benefit
– Allows to bulk-edit metadata (many at once)
 How to
– Make sure you choose flat view (no grouping!)
– Library/List Tab > Quick Edit
– Drag cells just like in Excel

2. Version Control
– Tracks history of changes to the document/item
 How to
– Library/List Tab > Library Settings > Versioning settings
– Enable Major Versions

3. Edit documents online
– Allows to edit documents in the browser without MS
Office (Word, Excel) installed on the computer
 How to
– Click on document
– Click on Edit in Word/Excel Online

4. List/Library Search Box
– Allows to quickly search for documents or items in a list
or a document library (not the whole site!)
– Search picks up metadata, file names, text within the
documents!

5. In-browser Drag and Drop between folders and metadata groups
– No more Windows Explorer!!!
 How to
– Just drag and drop files and folders from one folder or
metadata grouping to another right inside the browser.

6. Security Group permission lookup
– Allows to quickly see what access particular security
group has to the whole site collection!
 How to
– Site Settings > Site Permissions
– Click on the security group
– Settings > View Group Permissions
Another reason to use security groups – this
does not work with individual user permissions

7. Drop-down Navigation
– Allows to quickly create global drop-down navigation without
enabling Publishing features!
– Excellent user adoption technique – quickly get to any site
 How to
– Site Settings > Top Link Bar
– Drag and Drop submenus one under another, click Save
– Works best with non-IE browsers
– Special credit to Mike Smith and his blog post on this
awesome technique!

8. Enterprise Keywords
– Allows for quick and easy utilization of metadata
– Improves search experience
– Gives you ideas on how to categorize documents (if you
have no clue)

– Library/List Tab > Library Settings > Enterprise
Metadata and Keywords Settings
– Check the box, click OK

9. Managed Metadata
– Type-ahead functionality
– Ability to setup Metadata synonyms
 How to
– Site Settings > Term Store Management
– Create a column, select Managed Metadata radio
button

10. Metadata Navigation
– Awesome user adoption/usability technique
– Provides amazing search experience for business users
– Partially mitigates 5,000 view item limit because it
indexes those columns in the background
