Question 4: How did you use media
technologies in the construction and
research, planning and evaluation
stages.
By Callum Hemmings
Apple Mac
• Using the Macs has been helpful as it was my
main tool of using Photoshop which allowed
me to construct my products. On my Mac I
stored all the videos, images and fonts I
needed and allowed me to do research easily
due to how fast they are. Without the use of a
Mac, I would never have been able to
construct my products.
Cameras
• I used cameras to take photos of my models, which then lead to me
editing them. I used two cameras an IPhone 5s, and a canon camera, both
had there ups and downs. An IPhone 5s is more portable and takes photos
in acceptable quality, however, long shots and wide shots are much harder
to get on an IPhone. On a Canon camera, while it is more of a hassle to
upload the photos from the camera, the canon camera is more durable,
reducing the risk of losing the images, also the lens is much better Quality
and can take long shots and wide shots with ease.

Software's
• I used these pieces of software for research and planning tasks and
for time management. Prezi had the option to use templates to
make presentations, although these were optional and so I didn't
use them much. Prezi is a good way to make a simple presentation
and one of the reasons I used it was so that my blog was more
media rich. In Prezi, it was more to use as you could mould your
presentation in any way you like, with unique presentation themes
and the ability to have YouTube videos
• I used Emaze for this reason as well, with it being quite similar to
PowerPoint except you could place YouTube videos into the
presentation. It can be best described as PowerPoint mixed with
Prezi.
• Google Calendars is what I used primarily to keep track of time for
the time management part of my blog. At the end of the month I
would take a screenshot of the calendar and place into my blog to
sum up the month.

Blogger
• Blogger, was what I used to create my blog.
Going onto Blogger and creating the blog is
the first step of any media coursework,
making Blogger the first piece of software I
used and by far the most important .
• Labels are a brilliant way to organise the blog
in an easy way to find posts. This is a useful
feature of blogger.

Photoshop
• My skills using Photoshop have definitely improved since last year. I used this to make my
magazine, and billboard. In using Photoshop, I was able to manipulate my pictures I had
taken so that they were ideal for my products but I was also able to manipulate text as well,
making sure they looked aesthetically pleasing. I have improved from AS because in AS I had
difficulty cutting an figure from an image and placing it on a new one, but I can manage it
now, making the work more simple. The text was more manageable this time as I could move
it round and type it without issue, unlike AS. It was a good thing I did improve my Photoshop
skills as Photoshop was vital in the making of my products
Wix
• I have used Wix to create my website. With Wix, I was able to make a
website that was reminiscent of Empire magazine, my main inspiration.
Unlike everything else, I didn’t use this program in AS, this is completely
new, however I adapted quickly, with its simple to use tools, and managed
to make the website with the simplicity that I desired from it, I was able to
separate the website into different articles which helped with the
structure of the website. Wix is easier to use than Photoshop, and thus, I
finished the website quicker than other products.
