- 14. What is a Content Management System A content management system, or CMS, is a web application designed to make it easy for non-technical users to add, edit and manage a website. When World Wide Web was born, creating simplest web pages required HTML knowledge. Then came professional editors like Dreamweaver and Frontpage.
- 15. Despite these tools, when a website grows, it becomes harder to manage web pages using these tools. Large media publishers like on line newspaper websites were the first to realize that problem. A CMS automates content management. Features such as forums, image and video galleries, shopping carts can be easily added. The content is stored in database while the site's presentation is separate from the content and resides in visual templates.
- 16. What is Joomla Joomla is not only a free and open source CMS but it also has one of the most easy to use and understand interface of any CMS. Joomla started in 2005 as a fork of Mambo CMS. In its first year, Joomla was downloaded 2.5 million times. Between March 2007 and February 2011, there had been more than 21 million Joomla downloads.
