EASTER - TRADITIONS
The pre-Easter season begins on Ash Wednesday/40 days before Easter/
when the season of Shrovetide ends. The preparation period -40 days is
fasting, Christians commemorated Jesus' suffering in this way.
M0RENA
In the territory of Slovakia, they said goodbye to winter on Deadly Sunday -
two weeks before Easter, by carrying Morena, which was represented by a
figure of a girl made of straw. They threw her on fire into the stream. Morena
as a symbol of winter = spring should be summoned by its removal and
destruction.
PALM SUNDAY
 On the Sunday before Easter, people brought willow rods-mudstones
to the church. They had them consecrated in the church to protect
their homes. This week, the girls wore green halús, decorated with
ribbons and eggs - a symbol of awakening life.
GREEN THURSDAY
 According to the Christian calendar, the Thursday
before Easter is called Maundy Thursday. According to
tradition, green-colored foods are to be eaten on this
day so that people enjoy good health throughout the
year.
GOOD FRIDAY
There is a strict fast and no meat can be eatenOn this day he is not supposed to move
the earth because it was believed that he was still asleep and nothing would happen
afterwardsIt was believed in the miraculous power of water, while sick people went to
wash in the stream on this day. Women and girls washed their faces in the stream to
have beautiful and soft skin. The boys went diving in the stream and caught pebbles
with their mouths, which they then threw behind them with their left hand. After this
ritual, their teeth should not hurtOn Good Friday, the first medicinal herbs began to be
collected. It was also believed that treasures hidden in the ground were revealedGirls
used to comb their hair under the willow tree, weaving a piece of the bark into a braid
to keep their hair long and healthy.
WHITE SATURDAY
 White Saturday was a continuation of the two previous days, but during
it the meat and sausages (ham, sausages) that the housewives were
preparing for Easter Sunday were already smelling in the homes. White
Saturday was connected with other purification ceremonies - people
tried to wash themselves in the fresh spring water of streams and wells
so that this magical water would wash away all diseases, strengthen
EASTER SUNDAY
 In some areas, they brought food to the church for
consecration. They also gave the food to the animals. On this
day, families had a festive lunch, which included an egg.
EASTER MONDAY
 The boys used to go early in the morning to pour water on the
girls or whip them with a stick. The grooms received a
painted egg, cakes, or other treats from the girls.
SYMBOLS
 -WHIP - Boys beat up girls to make them healthy,
nimble as wands, girls tie colorful ribbons on it.
Korbách is woven from young sticks, which mean
youth, health and energy.
SYMBOLS
 EASTER EGGS - chicken, duck, goose egg decorated for the
Easter holidays. It is a symbol of the spring revival of
nature. Girls give them to boys/boys/boyfriends/ as a gift of
love. Eggs can be decorated differently.
