Introduction
 The “Internet of Things (IoT)” is the interconnection of
uniquely identifiable embedded computing devices(smart
objects/things) within the existing Internet infrastructure.
 The term "Internet of Things" was first proposed by Kevin
Ashton in 1999.
 The concept of “IoT” first became popular at the Auto-ID
center, MIT.
 "Internet of Things" phrase to describe a system where the
Internet is connected to the physical world via wireless
network (ubiquitous sensors).
 IoT contains WSN.WSN is a device which is used to connect
digital world with physical world.
Trend and characteristics of IoT:
 Intelligence
 Architecture
 Complex system
 Size considerations
 Space considerations
Features:
• Univocally identifiable & addressable
objects
• Artificial Intelligence
• Architecture
• Geo-Localization
• Size Considerations
 From any time, any place connectivity for
anyone, we will now have connectivity for
anything
Internet of Things
Technologies:
 RFID
 WiFi IEEE 802.11
 Barcode e QR Code
 ZigBee IEEE 802.15.4
 Sensors & smartphones
 Wireless Communication
 Cloud Computing
 Advanced Internet Protocol (IPv6)
Application Layer
Management Service Layer
Gateway & Network Layer
Sensor Layer
 Big Data Explosion
 Countless components
 Security & Privacy
 Advanced Internet Protocol
 Power efficiency
Major Challenges:
Architecture of IoT
Applications:
 Smart parking : Monitoring of parking spaces availability in the city.
 Smart Agriculture : Control micro-climate conditions to maximize the
production of fruits and vegetables and its quality.
 E-Health : people monitoring,bio-sensor ,ECG sensor
 Security& Surveillance
 Smart home :All controlled by smart phone/tablet.
 Transport and Logistics
 World sensor networks
 Daily life (traffic monitoring, shopping, etc.)
 Animal Tracking :Location and identification of animals grazing in
open pastures or location in big stables.
 Indoor Air Quality: Monitoring of toxic gas and oxygen levels inside
chemical plants to ensure workers and goods safety.
 Water Leakages :Detection of liquid presence outside tanks and
pressure variations along pipes.
Cyber Mirror/Smart Mirror:
A reflective mirror with programmable applications
• Vanity Lighting
• Health/Weight daily monitoring
• Watch TV programs
• Live feeds from social media/messaging
• Workout coach/guide
• Control via remote or smart phones
• Link with computer program portal
• Digital display for the home, office &
public environments (hotels, hospitals, retail shops).
Key challenges for IoT :
• Lightweight protocols for devices to work together, communicate
• Unique and extensible identifiers for all those billions of devices
• Demand for API access and interoperability
• Cyber security
• Privacy and Policy
Interest Areas :
 To achieve IoT we need a universal protocol to combine several heterogeneous
devices. This protocol should be: simple, lightweight, loosely-coupled, scalable, flexible
and standard.
 My interest area is in Smart parking ,smart Mirror, Tracking of things,
Transport & logistic, Smart home applications by using RFID,Sensor, cloud
technology with wireless techniques.
 if I join as an internship in “IoT”, I want to develop some application on
these above areas but give more focus on Privacy ,Security and Users
Interface of these applications which will help to people and make the society
more developed because the world becomes more digitalized in near future.
 I want to make Better Relationship between Human and Nature with smart device ,
Improve the resource utilization ratio , Dynamic control of industry and daily life,
Universal transport & internetworking by using IoT.
 IoT is recognized as one of the most important areas of the future Internet.
