This document discusses how AI is changing SEO. It begins by explaining how Google introduced RankBrain in 2015 to incorporate AI into its search algorithm. Today, AI helps search engines like Google better understand search queries to provide more relevant results. RankBrain can now determine search intent rather than just matching keywords. The document then discusses how AI and SEO work together to focus on topics rather than keywords and optimize for conversational searches. It provides examples of how RankBrain understands related search queries. Finally, it outlines some SEO tactics businesses can use to keep up with changes in search and take advantage of AI.

2. An Overview
In 2015, Google announced that it had added RankBrain to its algorithm,
cementing the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) in search. Fast-
forward to 2018, and search marketers are starting to use AI, machine
learning and deep learning systems to uncover new insights, automate
labour-intensive tasks and provide a whole new level of personalization to
guide website visitors through their purchase funnel. We have now fully
entered the AI revolution.
This is critical because Google’s algorithm is now much more focused on
search intent, not exact keyword match. This means keyword stuffing is
less effective and quality, well-written content is more likely to rise to the
surface. In fact, you can even rank for keywords that aren’t found in your
article if you satisfy the intent of that query.
3. Performance
RankBrain helps Google process and
understand search queries.
Depending on the keyword, RankBrain
will increase or decrease the
importance of backlinks, content
freshness, content length, domain
authority etc.
Google asked a group of Google
Engineers to identify the best page for
a given search. They also asked
RankBrain and RankBrain
outperformed brainy Google
engineers by 10%.
4. How do AI and SEO go hand-in-hand
Well, AI incorporates the algorithm and the data used to determine the
best and appropriate results. The data uses all kinds of contents, pictures,
user behaviour, and trust to help the users receive the desired information.
Before RankBrain, Google would scan pages to see if they contained the
exact keyword someone searched for. But because these keywords were
brand new, Google had no clue what the searcher actually wanted. So they
guessed.
Today, RankBrain tries to actually figure out what you mean, like a
human would.
5. For example, let’s say you searched for “the grey console developed by
Sony”. Google would look for pages that contained the terms “grey”,
“console”, “developed” and “Sony”.
6. RankBrain actually understands what you’re asking. And it provides a 100%
accurate set of results:
They’ve learned that people who search for “grey console developed by
Nintendo” want to see a set of results about gaming consoles.
So when someone searches for “the grey console developed by Sony”, RankBrain
brings up similar results to the keyword it already knows (“grey console
developed by Nintendo”). So it shows results about consoles. In this case, the
PlayStation.
7. Conversational Search
Did you know that 50% of all searches will be conducted by voice by next
year?
That’s right: Half of all the people heading to Google aren’t typing their
queries – they’re using a voice-assisted device to do the job for them.
Voice searchers have different habits than text searchers, and the devices
they’re using (whether that’s an Amazon Alexa, Siri or Google Home) take
data from SERPs to replay information from the featured snippet box back
as their answer.
For example, a text searcher might type “shark diet.” A voice-based search,
however, is likely to be more longer tail, like “what do sharks eat?”.
8. There’s one key difference with the two: Voice searches tend to be
question-based:
That’s why our SEO technique is to optimize your website to answer

10. Keeping Up With SEO
SEO is rapidly changing from one year to the next, with new algorithms
constantly emerging and Google frequently editing their webmaster
guidelines. Business owners and marketers have to adapt quickly, but it’s
still possible to give your business website the edge on your competition.
As you can see, having artificial intelligence on your side will give you
several benefits in your digital marketing strategy. AI is the new face of
productivity, efficiency, and profitability (since better decisions mean a
higher ROI).
