Emily S I really don't get why the overall ratings for this witty little indie film are so low. It's charming, darkly funny, and manages to tackle a very difficult topic with compassion and humor. Plus it has fantastic peformances from Tom Wilkinson, Aneurin Barnard, and Christopher Eccleston. Wilkinson and Barnard's chemistry is particularly good, and hilarious considering the circumstance they've entangled themselves in together. Yes, it requires a bit of suspension of disbelief, but what do you want from a slightly absurdist comedy? I love this movie and find it so enjoyable that I've rewatched it several times. I can't understand why so many have given poor reviews when there is so much to recommend this film. From the premise (a suicidal man unlucky in his attempts hiring an assassin to help him succeed) to the wonderful one liners, their delivery and the overall warmth and wit of the film, it is so enjoyably far-fetched and encompasses tragedy, comedy and resolution in 90 packed minutes. Dark and witty, the protagonist as dreary as the British weather drags his feet through a plot that's twisting his guts almost literally. He has lost the will to live and almost feels superhuman as a result of his failings in suicide. When he meets an elderly assassin on the brink of retiring at a bridge notorious for suicidal visitors. Knowing that many people are too afraid to follow through, the man gives them his card and an option most would never even conceive- take out a hit on yourself. He even has a brochure of possible ways to go. Love always comes into ones life when its least expected, changing the course and tempo of the movie- suddenly he wants to live... but can he?
