We're excited to see two of Santa Ana's innovative and high-quality affordable housing projects in the national spotlight! Harvard University’s inaugural housing design book features two Santa Ana adaptive reuse residential projects, which are among just 113 housing projects nationwide included in the book. “The State of Housing Design 2023” by the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies is the companion book to the Center’s signature annual report, “The State of the Nation’s Housing.” The book’s authors surveyed over 1,300 advocates, contractors, residents, developers, and designers, to identify “new, novel and notable designs” in housing across the United States. The Adaptive Renovations chapter features the Santa Ana Arts Collective at 1666 N. Main St. and La Placita Cinco at 2239 W. 5th St., both of which were supported with loans or funds from the City of Santa Ana to create new affordable housing. • Welcome the Rafferty to downtown Santa Ana! On Thursday, Santa Ana City Councilmembers and City staff joined Toll Brothers Apartment Living for a tour and ribbon cutting at this beautiful new apartment community. Councilmembers David Penaloza, Benjamin Vazquez, Jessie Lopez, Phil Bacerra and Johnathan Ryan Hernandez helped celebrate the opening. The Rafferty has 218 apartments including 11 affordable units for low income residents, as well as new storefronts, all bringing new residents and businesses to downtown. Toll Brothers also preserved the historical building façade built in the 1930s for First American Title Co. This is the first major mixed-use project to be built in the heart of downtown Santa Ana as we continue to find new and innovate approaches to add a variety of housing as well as job-creating commercial and industrial developments.

The City of Santa Ana Planning and Building Agency issued permits on May 8, 2024, for nationally recognized Toll Brothers to begin construction on this new residential townhome community. The project is located at 571 S. Lyon St. and will feature 51 three-story townhouse units for sale, including 43 units developed at market rate and eight units designated as affordable housing for low-income households. The City received nearly $80,000 in building plan check fees for this project, highlighting the significance of this development for the local economy. 717 Lyon has an estimated completion date of April 2026.
