The National Cotton Council of America released a statement commending Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee Ranking Member John Boozman for releasing a Farm Bill framework that significantly boosts the safety net for production agriculture. As the statement notes, “Now that two Senate proposals have been released – and a strong Farm Bill has passed the House Agriculture Committee with bipartisan support – the NCC urges all parties to work together to ensure a final Farm Bill is enacted in the coming months. Many segments of our industry are struggling as they weather high production costs and uncertain global demand. Simply put, farmers need assistance this year; and an extension of current law is not acceptable.” 🔗 Keep Reading: https://lnkd.in/efNBbkcc #Cotton #Agribusiness #CottonCompanion

Jay Mahaffey’s job as Science Fellow at the Bayer Learning Center in Scott, MS, is to help answer all sorts of agronomic questions about cotton, corn, and soybeans — primarily cotton. And that’s good, because, most importantly, he always wants to know why. “I don’t necessarily accept much at face value,” he says. “I want to know the details.” With 400 acres at the ancestral home of Delta and Pine Land Company, he has plenty of room to explore those details. So, when he was approached about seed increases for some historically successful, non-traited cotton varieties, he was intrigued. Shurley: Cotton’s Price Progress Takes a Tumble Recent bearish fundamentals have been just too much for the market to stand, and it all came crashing down this past week. Since the most recent recovery and “peak” at over 75 cents, prices (December 2024 futures) have now lost almost 4½ cents. Prices lost almost two cents after the June 28 USDA Acreage report and followed through with another 2+ cents this past week. The July 5 close at just under 71 cents is the contract low and squarely puts us at the bottom end of price expectations for this year’s crop. Crop Scan Ag Report: Helpful Rains, Watching Insect Pressure After some helpful rains across most of the Cotton Belt, the overall crop appears to be in pretty good shape moving into insect management time, with an eye on plant bugs and moth flights. And concerns, too, over what the remnants of Hurricane Beryl will bring to south, central, and eastern Texas and parts of the Mid-South. Since the last update, moisture has been our biggest concern. 🔗 Continue Reading: https://lnkd.in/eNfzkfUu. #AgRetail #CottonCompanion #Agribusiness

Stagnant Demand, July 4 Showers Dampen Cotton Prices The demand bug will just not go away. Cotton is desperately searching for market share and continues to be battered by acid-based polyester, as well as the ever-growing promotion of another high rising competitor, bamboo fiber. Coupled with good showers across most of the U.S. acreage, prices took a nosedive as the July 4 Independence Day celebrations ended. If those major factors were not bearish enough, U.S. economic data showed that manufacturing jobs continue to be lost and that the only real job growth remains in government. 🔗 Continue Reading: https://lnkd.in/eXFsaVF4 #Agribusiness #CottonGrowers #CottonCompanion #Farming
