LinkedIn verification update: 18 million verified, plans for 100 million by 2025

LinkedIn verification launched as a free service for professionals seven months ago and since then more than 18 million people on LinkedIn globally have signed up, a notable increase since we reached 7 million verifications in July. Our ever-expanding, free verification service helps you show your connections, colleagues and companies that you are who you say you are. Our vision is for every member of the global workforce to verify at least one attribute of their professional identity, with an aspirational goal of 100 million verified members by 2025. This would make LinkedIn the largest verified professional networking site in the world.

We care a lot about bringing everyone verification because it does more than simply give you a badge to display on your profile, it builds trust while bringing opportunity. On average, verified profiles get 60 percent more profile views, 50 percent more comments and reactions on their posts, and 30 percent more messages. High value features like verification show the value of authenticity, and that matters in today’s fast-changing world of work.

Here’s more on our progress and what's coming next:

  • Since we launched in April 2023, we’ve expanded identity verification to 400 million Linkedin members and company verification to nearly all of our 950 million members globally. Both ID and company verification can be displayed on member profiles, broadcasting to others you’re who you say you are.
  • Through partnerships we’re scaling access to verification so more people can participate with global companies including Microsoft’s Entra, CLEAR, and Persona. This way we offer multiple ways for people to verify professional identity including workplace and educational institution.
  • We’ve also integrated verification into some job postings. More than 20 percent of all job postings on LinkedIn are verified today, and we’ll keep working on growing that number.

We’ll also keep working to add more ways for members to verify for free and expand access in more countries. Ultimately we want to provide a verification option for every member of the global workforce, no matter where they are in the world.

Glad to see this got implemented

"verified profiles get 60 percent more profile views, 50 percent more comments and reactions on their posts, and 30 percent more messages." I bet those people were already getting those numbers before they got verified. What's the increase in reach & engagement for people before and after verification? 🤔

I have been struggling through the profile verification process. After many hours working with customer service agents, they were unable to resolve the issue, and my account is still not verified. This included multiple calls to Clear to understand why I was receiving an error message during the process. Through much trial and tribulation, finally a Clear representative informed me that their service can only verify you if you have Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile as your mobile carrier. Therefore, unless I change my mobile service provider, there is no way for me to verify my profile and 'get 60% more profile views on average'. When will there be a different way to verify rather than using Clear? Can there be a process to verify directly with LinkedIn?

The issue with the Persona Verification process is that it requires my full name, including my middle name that I never use. This is a problem because my passport and LinkedIn profile must have exactly matching names for verification. I guess this will be a common issue, especially in German-speaking regions, where people often have middle names they don't use.
