This week’s “Play ‘Til the Whistle” award goes to Natalie Howe, Senior Proposal Manager at Vaco Holdings, for providing critical information to her local community in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane knocked out power to millions of Houston-area residents, and CenterPoint Energy did not have an outage map available for its users. Seeking out open places with electricity, Natalie used her resourcefulness to think outside the box to locate power in the area.   Since Whataburger is open 24/7, she checked their mobile app to see which locations were open and to determine which areas of town had available power (and a hot meal). While analyzing the Whataburger app over time, she was able to get an idea of where CenterPoint was working and what areas could expect to gain power next. She shared these insights with her local community in a Facebook group, empowering her neighbors with the knowledge of where they could access power in their local area.
