“Why GP stakes is the strategy of the moment.” Private Equity International recently published an interesting article with the above title, referring to funds that make minority investments in private capital firms themselves, rather than in the funds they manage. “For years, the number of participants in this niche corner of the industry could be counted on two hands; now, the strategy has had enough time to prove itself a viable one and is benefitting from LP’s increased appetites and potential investment targets as a result,” writes Helen de Beer. I wholeheartedly agree. We also see investors embracing GP stakes funds, and with good reason. Is now the time to re‐assess your portfolios? My former colleagues from KKR certainly think so. In their latest Global Wealth Investment Playbook, KKR says it believes the new economic regime will be an “opportune time to adjust portfolio construction and lean into private markets”. Their research shows that a mix of private assets, inclusive of 15% private equity, has historically generated 1.1% higher return compared to a traditional 60/40 portfolio. KKR also says that the illiquidity premium of private equity remains substantial despite headwinds from higher rates and inflation. Moonfare's partnership with The Dariu Foundation is something we deeply cherish. The Dariu Foundation is doing exceptional work in teaching coding skills to young, disadvantaged people in low-income areas of Asia. In 2023 alone, they delivered digital literacy training to around 500,000 children – half of them girls. Supporting Dariu's mission is at the centre of our hearts, given our commitment to responsible global citizenship. It's inspiring to think that a young person trained by Dariu today may become a valued team member at Moonfare or another tech company tomorrow. Together, we are fostering a generation of digitally empowered youth.
