The Cyber Scheme were out in force in Birmingham this week for #CyberUK24, the flagship event organised by National Cyber Security Centre and supported by DSIT, GCHQ and The Cabinet Office among others. In contrast to other more commercial vendor-driven conferences and events that happen throughout the year, this conference aims to bring together an international community of speakers and advisors as well as over 2,000 cyber security leaders and professionals for networking, knowledge exchange, and collaboration. The emphasis is on learning, not selling. The theme this year was 'Future Tech, Future Threat, Future Ready'. The focus was on cutting edge developments, and exploration of both the threats and the opportunities of rapidly developing technology. Obfuscation from China and Iran, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine were all recognised as destabilising influences, hampering efforts to undermine threat actors at both Nation State and Organised Crime levels. While the mood was at times sombre, it was noted that the UK remains at the forefront of both legislative and technological advances, and ongoing collaboration with the US, Australia, Japan and the EU remain key. Read our blogs on the key takeouts from our time at the conference, including Government adoption of the UK Cyber Security Council standards, incident response as managed by the The British Library and the fact that #CyberEssentials works - as noted by Felicity Oswald OBE. https://lnkd.in/eh6WTxBT

When it comes to cyber, there is a lot of talk about what this means for domestic companies, but cyber is a geopolitical issue and needs to be thought of in terms of our both our national security and our position within the Asia-Pacific region. This article from Australian Strategic Policy Institute outlines steps Australia is taking, and can take to support ASEAN member-states's digital transformation and elevate cybersecurity as a central topic of regional discussion. Australian business would be wise to understand that greater cooperation in the high-tech sector with the region (while positive) may lead to increased vulnerability to cyber incidents. https://lnkd.in/gFWhY3RC

Amid heightened global cyber threats, it's crucial for U.S. businesses to bolster their cybersecurity measures. Recently, a report from Germany revealed a 28% surge in cyber crimes perpetrated by foreign actors in 2023, underscoring the escalating risk from suspected Russian hackers. German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser emphasized the persistence of high threat levels, especially with cyberattacks targeting defense and aerospace sectors. Given this alarming trend, it's imperative to have a strong cybersecurity team in place to protect your business from potential breaches. The situation in Germany serves as a stark reminder that cyber threats are not confined to one region but are a global issue, making American businesses just as vulnerable. Ensure your digital environment is secure by investing in top-tier cybersecurity professionals and advanced AI solutions. Proactive defense measures and real-time threat detection are vital to staying ahead of these malicious actors. 𝗛𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘀-𝗜𝘀𝗿𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘁 - 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 This week, I've been speaking with a lot of CyberCX customers here in Queensland. All keen to understand our view on the Hamas-Israel conflict and the potential cyber implications it might have for Australian organisations. In several sessions with Katherine Mansted and our customer cohort this week we specifically talked about the refocus of at least 30 groups ideologically aligned with Russia, Ukraine, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, within 48 hours of the conflict breaking out. These conversations have prompted me to share an Intelligence Update from Katherine's team, which sheds light on the current scenario - https://lnkd.in/deq7kPgX The report indicates that some companies in our region are currently facing a heightened risk of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks related to the ongoing conflict. What we have not seen, however, is a significant uptick of cyber extortion or destructive attacks at this stage. To gain a more comprehensive understanding of the potential cyber implications for Australian and New Zealand organizations and to stay up-to-date with further developments, I encourage you to explore the resources from the 𝗖𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗖𝗫 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗮𝗺. #cybersecurity #cyberintelligence #CyberCX #intelligenceupdate #AustraliaCybersecurity Gary McHugh || Kara Draffin || Christopher Booth || Racheal Mathies || Scott Robertson || Janiece Euston || Ben Spratt || Matthew Law || Naomi Borg || Byron Skinner || Leah Pinto || Iain M. || Aaron Pollard
